My Mother first saw Tony standing outside our house. She asked me, who is that boy? I answered that he was from Germany. She told me to have him come in the house. Tony and I were both nine years old. Although Tony spoke only a few words of English,we were still able to communicate. Tony and I became fifelong friends. But Tony was not a fraidy boy, and he quickly made a lot of friends.

I taught at Pontiac Central High School with Anton for 28 years. He was an outstanding educator who set high standards for and challenged his students. I can remember well our rather "speedy" trips to the Dakota Inn with Anton. What great times we had embracing German beer and culture. Tony tried to get me to go to the motherland with him shortly after we met. Unfortunately, I was too intimidated to seize the opportunity. I regret that decision to this day.
I can well remember how proud Tony was as he announced the birth of his children Carol and John.. Those cigars in the main office sure did disappear fast. What fun we had bating him in the men's lounge in the old building. My memories of this outstanding teacher and good guy speak to his legacy. My condolences to Carol and family. RIP, Tony.
