Much has been said of the wit and humor of Dr.Alchian and rightly so. I was his student when the Soviets shot Sputnik into the heavens. This shock hit him hard.He saw no humor in this and he did not like wisecracks made by some students in Statistics class.I guess that he knew some things that we could not know because of his contacts at Rand Corp.He lived to see the fall of the USSR. Hallelujah!!
My first exposure to economics came late in my life from reading Armen's book, University Economics. He showed me a new way to view the world. My search for better understanding led me to Henry Manne, who introduced me to Armen and gave me the privilege of seeing him in action as a teacher -- the best I ever saw. He and Henry became my friends and idols. The experience changed my life and I will be forever grateful. My love to Pauline and Arline with whom the Mannes, Carlie and I spent a wonderful week in late 2000 at the MPS meeting in Santiago de Chile. Armen's death has left a huge void in our lives.
I am an intellectual descendant.
Paul H. Rubin, Emory University
I am so sorry for your loss. I met Armen almost 40 years ago at Henry Manne's Law and Economics Institute and have greatly admired him ever since. A truly remarkable man whose influence will be felt for generations, especially by those who appreciate liberty and want to preserve it.

I never met Armen Alchian. However, given the quality of his scholarship, and the reputation he earned from generations of university students, I would like to pass onto his family my condolences.
The world has lost a great economist.
My sincerest condolences on the loss of your father. When my dad made the transition in March of 07, at the ripe old age of 95 I hardly thought any of my old friends still had living parents. Also, give my thoughts to your Mom. My mom is still up and going at 96 and does remember your visit here. I really appreciate the hospitality your parents afforded me in the summer of '66 when I stayed at your house while we shopped for stero equipment. I am constantly reminded of our friendship as I have a couple of large AR speakes in my office. Was just rereading your emails for 04-05 in my hotmail account(yes they are still there at email@example.com) and I sent an email last year that indicated that your email address was no longer valid. Probably would have missed this had your father not been so famous(WSJ and Fresno Bee) We are always thankful for long living parents, for many reasons. Time to take care of the Moms. Again, my deepest thoughts and prayers for your family. Keep in touch.
Your "Oldest"(?) friend, Bob
