Gus was a model Marine and leader/teacher of young men. He served as a platoon leader under my command in Viet Nam and was easily my finest officer. He will be greatly missed. Paul J. Smith Colonel (Ret) USMC.

I met Gus and Willy in 1986 at The Captain's Quarters. He became part of our every year trip to the Glen for the races. He loved the comraderie and fun that all of us from Camillus brought every year. He continued that friendship by showing up to the Seneca Lodge on Saturday evenings to see all of us year after year. We all just learned of his death today 6-13-13. he will be forever missed. The Camillus Gang.....

"I couldn't have said it any better than my daughter's (Janelle) guest book message. Gus made the Marine Corp proud and he was a proud Marine! He also was very proud of his three sons. Gus never forgot his NY roots and happily came back home to his Willie and his family. Rest well but not too long since I feel sure there are some projects up there just waiting for your attention!" God's peace,
Leah (Hertford, NC)

Gus would from time to time stop at my home on Decatur Street. We would always talk about the good old days. What a wonderful hard working person he was.

Gus was the 9th child born to his parents. Here's a picture of Gus and I on a camping trip. I am wearing my favorite shirt at the time. You can't see it, but it had a large number 9 on the front.

I hope my other posting about Gus made it through the website, too. Peace - Janelle

Remembering the camping trips, flag poles in our yard(s), fish ponds, swimming pools, retaining walls etc that Gus built. He always said "Just like New York". I am glad he found happiness back in New York with his family and Willie. With loving memories, Janelle James.
