My parents moved to Kenora in 1983 and two years later I was born. Our next door neighbours were a lovely older couple who very quickly became known as Grandma and Grandpa to myself and my brother who was born 15 months after me. I have very fond memories of my Grandma Bertha and Grandpa Vic even though we moved away when I was only four years old. I still have the last card that she sent me sitting on a shelf in my living room that has followed me from college to my first apartment to my first house. Goodbye Grandma. I never forgot you and I'll always love you. My heart goes out to your family.

Bertha and Vic were our children's unofficial adopted grandparents while we lived next door to them and so far away from their actual relatives. Vic was a kind person with a great sense of humor. Bertha was equally kind and a pleasure to interact with, as well as very loving to our kids, even though they were not of her blood. We miss them so much, and eventhough it was not often that we spoke with each other, we would always look forward to hearing their voices, and in later years Bertha's voice around Christmas time. We are so very sorry to not have that opportunity this year. Bertha was so special to us and, we are certain, to many others. We will keep her forever in our memories which are certainly not enough but those we have are nothing but wonderful. Be with Vic now, Bertha. We love you and will miss you here until we meet again.

Love you because of who you were and for what you've become in our hearts.
