I was fortunate to be there at Campbell on the day that Myrt and Dan met during a Homecoming celebration. It was like they were seeing each other for the first time and I knew that they were going to finally have the love that they so deserved. Myrt was like a young school girl, excited about finding the man of her dreams. Dan was very charming and somehow I could just sense his admiration and new love and respect for my dear friend. It was a day I will always cherish. I had the chance to sing at their wedding in Buies' Creek and then I had the chance to sing for Dan's memorial. thank you family for giving me that chance to do something for you all. You were so blessed to see two people really love each other, care for each other and happy in each other's lives. I missed Myrt so many times these past few years but I know how happy she is to welcome her love, Mr. Dan, home for eternity. What a wonderful opportunity for us to have witnessed in our lifetime, the real love that two people can share when they live their lives focused on God, family and each other. I love sharing that with them. I know without a doubt that God blessed them in such a special way. He has led all of you, the family, to be able to experience what "family" really means. I will pray for you all in the coming days. I know they will be filled with many emotions. God bless you all and know that you are being lifted up. Love, Mona R. Knowles

Dear Linney Children,
It was with great sadness that I learned of your father's death this last week. I have many happy memories of the multitude of plays and musicals Dan directed. It was also great having him be a vital part of the Fine Arts Department. He truly devoted his life to Campbell and is still remembered as the originator of the drama department at CU.
Our thoughts are with you at this time of loss. If you visit Buies Creek, do include me in your visit.
Sincerely, Gail Yoder Neville

When I came to Campbell as a young teacher in 1964, the plays that Dan was putting on were ambitious and exciting. I had small roles in some of those productions and loved it. Dan had a vision of what he wanted and helped those on stage achieve it. He and Geraldine were talented individuals who enriched my life and the lives of many others. Elizabeth, Danny, and Bill, I sympathize with your loss.

Mr. Linney taught me the work ethic for theatre that I still use to this day in all my work in Entertainment as an actor. He will be greatly missed and there is not a day go by that I do not reflect on his teachings at Campbell University.

And flights of angels sing thee to thy rest!"
