He was my PE Coach at OHS when I was in 11th grade, 1967. I will remember him in my prayers.
Words can never express the thoughts that the heart is having at this time. Please be assured that you are in my thoughts and prayers during these trying days. I will always remember David for his smile and always calling me by name when he would stop and talk to me. This meant so much to me and showed his caring and respect for other people. I admired and respected David for his Christian outlook and demeanor at all times. I will miss seeing him as I know you already do. May God hold you and the whole family in his comforting arms and may you have peace and strength in the next days.
Coach Moore was a good one! I still remember his advice, and his kindness. Ms Harlan; you and your family are in my thoughts, and prayers continue.
My Coach at Lake Charles High and my children's Principal at Hamilton. He touched me and my family in so many positive ways. Our condolences, he will be missed.
There is not one man alive, who taught me more, about athletics and integrity, than Coach David Moore. His meaningful input into my life, is 'the' defining way I Coach kids today. I have coached over 100 different teams in various sports and his influence guides me on the court, on the field, and in life. He is one of the most dominant figures in my life, and my heart goes out to this beautiful family, ms Harlan, Brad and Melanie. May God bless you all, Steve Blount, Financial Advisor, and Moss Bluff Coach
Thank you for everything you taught me Dr. Moore!! You will be missed!! Sending prayers of comfort for the family.
What a wonderful witness Mr. David Moore has been in his lifetime. As members of First Baptist Church of Lake Charles for several years in the past, our whole family was so inspired and blessed by knowing David and Harlan and their children. Our hearts are heavy for you all at this time, but we know that we shall all be reunited in Heaven one day. God bless you!
My condolences to the Moore family. Coach Moore was truly a Gentleman and a Gentle Man. One of the best Summers of my life was in 1962, when we were roommates and he was my Baseball coach. I was elected to the USL Athletic Hall of Fame in 1989, and told my wife this is a honor, because Coach Davis Moore was in that same Hall. I truly was not able to measure up to him in any other way.
He was such a big part of my life in high school. COACH you will be missed
He was a good role model for the OHS students and always a gentleman!
Please accept my condolences for the loss of this fine gentleman.
Mrs. Moore, Melanie, and Brad,
It is with heart felt loss that I celebrate the ascension of Coach David Moore's soul into the Kingdom of Heaven. I regret not having told Coach directly, that other than my own father, he was the most influential man in my life. Coach taught me that one did not have to raise their voice to be heard, that obscene language was NEVER needed to convey a thought, and through his weekly pre-game recital of Norman Vincent Peale's “Never Quit” poem, that victory, and success, was forever attainable, if one persevered. Coach's positive life example of Christian leadership, was instrumental in insuring that the 1970 Opelousas High School football program survived during that turbulent time. Coach understood positive reinforcement, and individualized communication, when other coaches were utilizing negative generalizations, as well as demoralizing obscenities, in an effort to “motivate” a radically diverse group of confused impressionable teenagers. Coach Moore simply understood the entire psychology of the adolescent mind possessed the gift of conveyance, and achieved his desired goals, through the use of a humanistic approach. Coach Moore simply “understood”!
Almost to the individual, everyone associated with David Moore from the O.H.S. Class of 1971 have gone on to achieve professional success in their lives. Most importantly, all have grown to be followers of Christ, through the life lessons instilled in each of us, by David Moore, at a time in our lives that many of us “didn't really get it”!
Coach Moore, you taught me that angels always listen, thank God, because I want you to know that I Love You!
One of your many students,
Randy Fontenot/OHS Class of 1971
Mrs. Moore, I was the lucky guy that you refused to let fail in Math. May God wrap his loving arms around you, and comfort you, as Coach Moore embarks on his journey of eternal salvation! Thank you for sharing him with me.
We are sorry for your loss! Praying for all of you!!

What a legacy he leaves. The influence that he has had on so many students only God can measure. He is the type of a God fearing coach that you would want your son to be on his team. My son was blessed to have played under his coaching and his Christian influence at La Grange High. Jane and I send our prayers for his entire family. A GIANT of a man has left this earth and is now in the presence of The Lord. Stephen and Jane Collins
Dr. Moore shaped the lives of so many young people. He was HCA. With his guidance and strong Christian values he earned the respect of all his students.
