Pauline, Margie, David and Cathy,

I was so sorry to hear of Don's passing. You have my deepest sympathy.

Don - and all of you - were fixtures on Preston Street for as long as I lived there. It was such a busy house across the way, and I know my parents John and June were so glad to have you all as neighbours.

I remember Don with great fondness. He gave me my first job at King's the summer I turned 16. At the interview I recall being quite concerned that I might not get the job! Don certainly put me through my paces. Then, after he gave me the job, he took the trouble to check in on me from time to time.

He and my father were great friends. Dad thought the world of Don, and Don always spoke so very highly of Dad. I will always recall a long conversation I had with Don on the corner of Watt and Chestnut once when I was home from university. This was after Don had retired, I believe. Don went out of his way to say wonderful things about Dad. But really what that conversation showed was what a warm and kind-hearted gentleman Don was. I also remember when Don came to the funeral of my grandmother (Dad's mother) at All Saint's, personally supporting Dad at what I know was a very difficult time for him. Don's generous gestures meant a lot to my father and to our whole family.

Thank you, Don, for your warm smile and your unfailing thoughtfulness, and for helping make my memories of growing up on Preston St. so special.

Dear Pauline and Family,

My sincere condolences on the passing of Don.

Growing up on Preston Street I would often see Don and the entire Fry family come and go, and Don would always have a great smile ready at hand.

When I was quite young I would sometimes visit my Dad's office at Kings College and if I was lucky run into Don as well. I remember on more than one occasion when Don took me over to the King's dining hall for a little snack and his fun company – something that I always enjoyed and remember very fondly to this day.

I first met Don as a student at King's in the 80's, when he recognised me as a parishioner from St. Thomas Aquinas. He always had a kind word or a joke, and was the epitome of decency. As a faculty member at King's now, it has been my pleasure to remember Don and a privilege to return to STA for his funeral. It's clear that he'll be missed as much as he will be fondly remembered by many! With condolences,

Pauline, Margie, David & Cathy,

I wanted to reach out during this difficult time with my sincere condolences and sadness of your dad's passing. Don was a wonderful human being who touched & helped so many people, he simply did so without any agenda and only pure reasons. I love your dad, my memories are endless and will cherish them during my lifetime. He was part of our household growing up & into adulthood having touched our familly in so many ways that WE are the ones blessed for having his gift of friendship, love and humility.
Don's light will shine forever as it always has. God has called Don home with open arms and now you and yours have an Angel in Heaven. Cherish your dad's memories, hold them close to your heart and rest in knowing how much good your father did and the positive impact he had in many lives.

God bless, prayers, thoughts and love with you all.

Just a few memories I would like to share with you. Don hired my Don to work at the Hfx Housing Authority, due to that we became friends with Don and Pauline. I worked with Don at UKC for a period of time. I enjoyed having lunch with him in the diningroom, his sense of humor made your working day enjoyable. When Don came to our home for a visit or we dropped in to their home, he always had a hug and kiss for you. We also enjoyed visits with Don and Pauline at their summer place in Ketch Hbr. Don was a self-made man, thoughtful, kind, sincere. I could go on and on but will close this off by saying that Don was a true friend and a pleasure to know.

Love and prayers. Donna Currie

Sincere condolences to the Fry family on Don's passing. Don was kind, humorous, purposeful, and a gentleman above all else. I was lucky to work for Don as a campus police officer and an admin office assistant when I attended Kings College. Don kept me on my organizational toes, was great sounding post, and always had my back on keeping issues grounded when I was Chair of the residency council. 30 years since those days, and many of us Kingsmen and Kingswomen still smile when we talk fondly about Don at get-togethers. That's Don; a friend, a mentor, well-loved and memorable.

I knew Don from my days as a student at King's and from a couple of summers working on tthe Campus Police, with Don as my boss. We had some great conversations, even (especially?) when we didn't agree. I remember him as a thoroughly decent man, with a sharp wit. My condolences to his family.

Sorry to hear of Donnie's passing, remembering a very great and smiling man who years made us Harbour kids look forward to your weekend and summer visits and that meant treats at Frys', sitting here thinking back and what always stayed in my mind was one time I think it was Kevin, Colleen and me swimming down by Mr. Inkpen's wharf and Donnie hollering down as we got out"How's the water guys" and my reply WET , and how even years later as a teenager after moving to the city how when we would meet up somewhere it was the first thing we would think of and we would laugh so hard, a great friend to my mum & dad and to all our family, I will always remember the Smile, again accept my condolences

I was a student at UKC in the 1980s. I remember Don as the kind of man who made me feel like this new world into which I had stumbled had order, sense and purpose. He was a helpful, candid, no-nonsense kind of guy: funny, fatherly, a rock of common sense. I still remember Don as if I'd just seen him last week, and I am deeply moved to hear of his passing. I want to share my condolences with his wife and family. I also want to share what I am sure you already know: Don was loved and respected by countless students at King's, myself included. We should all be bllessed to live so well and be remembered so fondly.

Pauline, Margie & family, I was so saddened to read Pat's facebook post about my dear sweet pea, Don. I remember so many laughs we had when he and Pauline would come in the office with Mr and Mrs T (Gerald & Sheena) . He so loved to hug and give kisses, I always wanted to squeeze him to pieces. He was so jolly, full of love, and so appreciative of any attention. I so enjoyed viewing the pictures of his life on this site. He touched so many people in such a positive and loving way. I am so sorry for your loss, but I think we will always be blessed just to have been in his journey of life. xoxoxox ps love the photo of Mr T and him in the jacuzzi
