Vicky, David, and the whole Dailey family, I am so sorry to hear of your loss. Doug was a great guy. Now he has gone to the big hot dog stand in the sky. R.I.P.Doug.
I thought this Irish poem would help ease things for Doug's family and friends, through these trying times.
May the road rise up to meet you.
May the wind be always at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face;
the rains fall soft upon your fields and until we meet again,
may God hold you in the palm of His hand.
May the peace of the Lord be with Doug's family and friends, for now and ever after.
Many fond memories. Rest in Peace Sweet Man. My love to the family.
Oh, Vicky, I'm so sorry for your loss, but please understand it is "our" loss, as well. To us visiting home PYA transplants, "Dougie" was a Penn Yan icon that was a must to drop in to visit with every visit back home, reminisce about old times, hear his
latest jokes, read yet another new sign, and have one of the best damned cheese burgs on the planet - done the "right way" - cooked in it's own grease. Coming home just won't be the same, anymore. My sincere condolences.
My first memories of Doug were in our neighborhood around '53 when he lived on the corner of Court and Burns Terr. I lived down around the corner on Glencoe. The Curbeaus lived across the street from me, Butch Comstock lived in my back yard on Burns Terr, Susan Gyle lived across BT from Butch, Gordy Bascom lived up BT back towards Doug, the Austermans (I know I'm killing these spellings) across BT from Gordy, the Schroeders back across BT, the Killians kitty corner from Doug back on Court, Barb Marshall across Court, Milt Fitzwater up the hill on Court, the Whites across the street from Milt, and many others scattered around the neighborhood. Just one great place for kids to grow up.
Most all the kids from that neighborhood left PY when they grew up heading out for "greenier pastures" - with self-perceived attitudes to match. But, not our "Dougie." The guy we would go visit at MW in recent years was identically the same nice, hard working, funny, friendly guy as that kid that lived in my neighborhood.
We'll all miss you, big guy.
Palmer "Stub" Moore - PYA '59

Our sincere sympathy to Vicky and the entire family. Doug had been a friend since grade school. His strong conviction for fairness and hard work were his inspiration and example to others, that knew him. Doug always greeted others with a smile, despite his pain and failing health.
