With a heavy heart I write in your guest book...
To the man that suspended me numerous times, who at the sound of you calling me (by my last name of course) I would stop dead in my tracks !! You taught me many lessons! Many years ago you asked me to remove my leather jacket and I refused! Well today in your memory I will hang my head, remove my leather and pray for your eternal rest! With all my respect!!
One of the few people in my life that had a direct impact in becoming who I am today. I had sincere respect for this wonderful man. May you rest in eternal peace.
I only got called into your dad's office once. The mere thought of going to, 'Rittbergs office, " scared everybody. I don't remember why I was called to his office but he was very nice and by his quiet strength convinced me to stay out of trouble.

Dear Louise & Family,
I am so saddened to hear of Ed's passing.. What a wonderful man. Great friend to many. He will certainly be missed. I pray you all find peace in each other during this time.
One of a kind guy that even when I was 14, I respected tremendously. Strangely, I was just thinking about him a few days ago. You will be missed by EVERY student that ever met you, Ed!
Dear Louise,Janice and family,
Mr. Rittberg was a great role model for all teachers, administrators and students. When I attended St.Joe's he had coached football and had everyone's respect. You just had to say his name or see him coming and you knew you had to walk the straight line.He took no nonsense, expected everyone to live by the golden rule and play fair. He wanted everyone to give 100%,work to his/her potential, don't fish for excuses, and just do it.He had zero tolerance for those who didn't try.He didn't want anyone to quit without trying hard at it.When I came to SHS as principal I would pick his brain on the phone or on the street. No matter where I saw him, his coaching advice was inspirational. He had been there ,done that and saw I was hungry to learn.I told him I want to keep his legacy and the legacy of others to go on for years to come.He didn't say a word, but that smile of his gave me his approval to work hard with the staff for the kids. All he ever wanted was to see that the right things take place in life. He was a strong man of sound integrity. Former students told me they would fear getting in trouble and going into his office. He was bigger than life. Please know that we at Secaucus HIgh School are saddened by his loss.I know he heard those words when he entered the pearly gates" Well done thou good and faithful servant." The world needs more men like Ed Rittberg who was never afraid to speak his mind and transform the minds of his students to become the successful people they are today. Dr. Bob Principal SHS
