Toby was the most amazing, giving person. I had the extreme pleasure of working with her in the O.R. in Kamloops for many years. She will be missed but she will always be in my heart.

"Toby"was a presence in the O.R. that made any and all newcomers feel welcome and loved. She always had a kind word when you were learning and was able to brighten even the gloomiest day with her smile. She is missed by many

I wrote this on Christmas Day, shortly after hearing about Toby's passing.

Today the world lost a great lady. She was kind and gentle and funny and mostly, giving. She ran our operating room for years and we all knew it was her voice when we heard that famous Philippine accent (even though sometimes we couldn't understand it!). We once got her a t-shirt that said "Do you want to talk to the doctor in charge or the nurse who knows what's going on?"....Yes....Fe Tobias (aka Toby) knew what was going on. She ran the show. She knew what was important. She got the job done. But she took care of us as well. She made us smile and laugh and fed our souls. She knew when we needed refuelling and fed our bodies. To her brother and his family she gave her all and looked after all her nieces and nephews.
She will be missed and remembered with love by all who knew her. A tear and more have been shed on this Christmas Day.

With love and sadness,
Roxanne Engli

Toby was one awesome lady. What a great coworker and friend. I had the privilage of knowing her and working with her for a number of years. She was one of the best OR Nurses I knew. She really did run our OR at RIH. Always smiling and friendly. And always in control. A pleasure to work with. I will miss her a lot. She was an inspitation to many. Our thoughts are with her family and many friends at this time. Toby may you rest in peace. Until we meet again my friend.

Surely we'll miss you, everytime you come to the philippines there's a lot of story to tell. When you hear a voice, you can tell that it's tita fe talking. She will be remember as lively as she is when she's still alive. Our love and prayers to the family.

I was one of the lucky few that got to call her Ninang. For a few brief years, I got to be a part of the family that she had brought together and cared for, and for whom she'd do anything.

But my favourite memories are from a time when I still called her Fe, when we were in Palawan on vacation. I remember her booming laugh as monkeys stole food right from our hands. I remember how she always seemed to know what the best hotel in town was, the best restaurant, the best sights to see. She would take charge and things would happen. But mostly, I remember our conversations about family, work, social issues and many other things, as we sipped tea and listened to the rain fall on the roof.

When I next find myself in the Philippines, Ninang, I will drink a cup of tea while listening to the rain. And I will think of you and I'll know that you're there with me.

Our deepest and heartfelt sympathy goes to Fe's family, especially Rodolfo Tobias, his wife Linda and their three children--her niece and nephews-- who feel the pain and sorrow of her passing because she loved them so much... we share in your sorrow.

The first time I met Fe was in 1974 at R.I.H. in Kamloops when I went to the O.R. for the delivery of my son. Fe was there; so sweet, friendly, and very helpful which calmed my fears and my worries. She visited me every day and brought flowers and friends like Aure Mabalay, another nurse. Both of them became the Godmothers of our children.

Through the years Fe continued to be a special friend and Godparent, with regular visits to our home, often during the holidays where she shared gifts of food and laughter. My daughter Lily will always treasure the memory of those visits: "I will never forget my Ninang Fe's kindness and generosity. She is an example of how I want to live my life, with strength and a loving heart."

May she rest in peace. We will all miss her kindness, friendliness, and humanitarian spirit.

Ate Fe was and will continue to be an inspiration to many of us, especially her cousins. We heard about how hard she started in life and knew how she struggled through it to create her own niche under the sun. We remember how she was beeming with pride while she related her experiences as a nurse, devoted to her craft and to service. She inspired us to be better as a person and to strive to have a better life. But in all these, to remain humble and caring to family and relatives.

My Ninang Fe has been known to strike up a conversation with anyone on her many worldly travels. A valued member of the OR Team at Royal Inland Hospital. She was the most selfless person, helping out her family in the Philippines, and sponsoring her immediate family to Canada. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends. I will never forget you. Thank you for everything you have done for our family, I am eternally grateful for having you in my life. I love you, and will miss you so much.

I met Fe "Toby" as we knew her in the OR. @ RIH We both enjoyed the 0930 to 1730 shift and alternated week by week the desk job. We had many laughs together and I really enjoyed her wit. We have kept in touch all these years since our retirements I will always remember her. Rest In Peace my friend Brenda Sproule

I am extremely sad to know I will not hear your voice booming through the house ever again, but equally grateful to have known you, even for a short time. You generosity and selfless acts of kindness for family have taught me well. I will not forget your thoughtfulness and love.
Thank you for being a part of my life.
