Karen, Remember building the garage at our house? Everyday those guys spent more time standing around and drinking beer than they did actually working, but it turned out great thanks to Fred's expertise and knowledge. He was a wonderful friend and has helped so many people. His life was valuable and influential to many, many people. I'm so sorry you're alone now and I'm thinking of you daily. I'll be calling soon. Karen:

I will not be able to make it on Friday. I do however want you to know that I will bow my head for you.

Fred was a very easy person admire. The last time I saw him I believe I thanked him for mentoring me. I would not have been as confident in my work, nor made the living that I did later in my career, had it not been for my apprenticeship with Fred. He would show up in Knoxville like the 'Nashville Streak', drag us into projects that no one understood; except of course Fred, then be gone as fast as he came in! If you asked questions, Fred would explain the task at hand; however, more often than not I just pretended to know what he and the client were talking about! I still smile when I think about how confident he was at 'consulting'. I was about 25 years old at the time; I just wanted to be as smart as Fred. Fred's influence ultimately empowered me to better provide for my family. I am grateful and will never forget living on the 'consulting edge' with Fred, it still brings a smile.

My hope for you is that cherished memories of Fred eventually subside over the sorrow and you find healing.

Deep Sympathy and Highest Regards,

Greg Owens

Fred was a good friend, wonderful colleague, and a delightful gentleman to spend time with. Everyone at Barber McMurry architects enjoyed our time and work together, and looked forward to his visits.

He taught me a lot; not just about building hospitals, but about taking care of clients the right way.

Beth and I offer our deepest condolences to all Fred's family and friends. I will miss him very much.
