I am so sorry for your loss. John was always kind, humorous, hard-working, smiling,... you could count on him. He was was a pleasure to work with and to know.

My sister and I worked at Shaws with John. He was one of our favorite people to work with. He was always so friendly and pleasant to work with. I looked forward to the mornings when I would get to work with John. What amazed me the most about him was how hard he was willing to work. He was inspiring. He will be greatly missed. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

John will be so deeply missed. He was a wonderful man whom I had the pleasure to work with at Shaw's. He would always say goodmorning before I would have a chance to get the words out. I deeply enjoyed his presents each day.

I also had the pleasure of working with John at Shaws. He was always so pleasant and never ended the day without saying a cheerful " have a good one". I will miss his presence. My thoughts are with you, his family, at this time of deep sorrow.

When Mr.Hodgman's son Mike first brought me to his hometown in Yarmouth,we were in college, Basketball teamates, then became the best of friends. That's when I had the pleasure of meeting Mr.H!!When I walked into his home for the 1st time,I Immediately felt like I was a part of the family!!That's the way Mr and Mrs H treated me.. so very down to earth and friendly. That day, I left the Hodgman home,I knew right off in some small way I would become close to him.He was one of the most knowledgable people to talk sports about!! Weather it be Celtics B-ball or Division 3 ladies field hockey,He had the answer. One of my many fondest memories of Mr.H was walking down to the tv room, and hearing that tv broadcasting some kind of a sports event, then seeing him intensely in tuned to whatever game he happened to be watching! I could go on all day. Anyone who had the pleasure of meeting Mr.H knows what i'm refering to.
Mr.H,I know you are resting in all the peace you deserve. You will forever be in my thoughts and prayers, and I thank God with all of my heart that I was very fortunate to know not only your Beautiful family, but the man I will always know as Mr.Sports knowledge guy!!
Have fun flying high with the angels..

I had the pleasure of working with John at Old Tavern Farm many years ago. The description of his personna couldn't be more spot on. I found him to be a most polite and hard working man. He set a great example of his work ethic and made a positive impression on me at a young age when I was there. My fondest memory of John was how be bought his trucks. He always said "I get a new truck every time my ash tray gets full." Knowing he was a non-smoker saying that always made me laugh. This community has truly lost a great man. My memories working with John will always be fond ones. My sincerest condolences to your whole family for your loss.
Sincerely,
Tom Wertman
