Jeanie's incredible impact on the lives of many will continue for years to come. Thoughts and prayers are with her friends and coworkers, and her family. Please know Jeanie lived a life that was way too short - but one that will never be forgotten. Her care, compassion and love for others will be felt for generations to come.

Aloha to the Barton family and know that you are all in my prayers!

There is one less ray of light on the planet with Jeanie's passing. I met Jeanie at Staff College at Ft. Belvoir, 6 years ago, and we were both students, and she was in my class.five years ago. We were classmates and we became good friends. I was immediately struck with her humor, kindness and her passion for helping Soldiers, and her love for her husband and her family..

We spoke often on the phone throughout the years about our families, and the work we both were doing with Soldiers; her at ACS and me at the VA.

She came to Honolulu a couple of years ago for a business trip for DoD, and we were able to meet up, share a meal and some laughs about our experience at Staff College.

I remember her talking about wanting to come back with her husband to see more of Hawaii, and I told her I would be glad to be their tour guide.

I know she had strong faith and know that she is at rest in Heaven with God, and she is watching over all of us, and all of the Soldiers.

I will miss my conversations, her support and her dear friendship.

Mahalo Nui Loa Jeanie (Until we all meet again)

October 01, 2012
Jeannie's family and friends, my heart is heavy for you as I know Jeannie provided a source of happiness and light to all who knew her. In her professional life she was the "go-to" ACS Director, always willing to assist and provide guidance. She was always on target with that advice and guidance. I didn't keep in close contact but knew that if I needed anything I could turn to Jeannie and she would assist me. She taught me so much about how to manage an ACS center and the myriad of things that happened inside and outside of them. She was an inspiration to all who knew her - and I will miss her very much! May God hold you in his arms as you walk this journey. Many people have you in their thoughts and prayers.

To Jeanie's family I am sorry for your loss, you are in my thoughts and prayers. I know family was very important to her because she talked about you often in conversations I had with her. I've started my entry several times and the words for what I am feeling aren't coming any easier. There are so many things that I could say about Jeanie that I am sure that others have said. Since I learned about her passing I've thought about how much she believed in me... Even when I didn't believe in those things myself, Jeanie praised me for things that I didnt realize she was aware of, and through our many talks in which we shared smile, laughs and sometimes tears, she always expressed her love for her Family. I will miss those conversations the most. She knew I was also so found of my Family. I am Blessed to have been apart of not just the ACS Staff by her direct team. I will continue to pray for both her Family and Friends as we all deal with this transition in life. It will not an easy transition but a transition we will not have to do alone. I had a WONDERFUL conversation with her several weeks ago and I will honor her by doing all the things that we discussed and goals we set. Jeanie rest well because you deserve it.

I don't know where to begin, found out this afternoon (28 September) of this tragedy. Jeanie, I've heard through the grapevine that you have mounted wings overnight and flew away. My mind cannot fathom the sorrow and sadness as I am grieving, while wiping my tears away. You are deeply missed, for no one can replace your smiling face and your laughter. Nevertheless, I am certain you are in a far greater place, a place that was not built by human hands. Thank you for being a great and caring boss in the 10 years I worked for you. Thank you for being a great teacher, a guidance counselor, confidant, comforter, above all, "a personal loving friend." I will always think of you and remember you as Jeanie, "a very caring lady who always want to make things better for everyone." May you Rest In Peace, and save me a room in your new mansion.

My fond memories of Jean go back to elementary school and of course always included her sidekick, Janice. I remember Jean as extremely smart (as is "smarter than me":) haha) and always kind, sweet and funny. Love to you all--so sad to hear Jean is no longer in this life. Pam Manning Rox

May you rest in eternal peace Mrs Jeanie Barton. And may God surround your family with his everlasting peace as they celebrate your wonderful life. As the saying goes, people come into our lives for a reason. I am grateful to have had you be present in mine for the past 5 years. So I wont say goodbye, instead I say see you later. And I hold the memory of when I last saw you, as you served me cake at the ACS Birthday Party celebration. And what a wonderful memory that is.

Jeanie. I will always cherish the professional relationship we shared over the years as ACS Directors. You will be missed but never forgotten.
September 27, 2012
My condolences to Jeanie's family. Three years ago Jeanie asked me to fill some pretty big shoes when she asked if I'd be interested in Becky's position. I was so nervous thinking that I wouldn't do a very good job but she was so patient with me and showed me so much, taught me so much, shared so much knowledge with me. I will always be greatful to have worked for her. I'll always remember our conversations and those funny "facial expressions" when I walked in her office with stuff for her to sign. ACS has lost a great leader but God has gained a great soldier. My prayers to family and friends, Rest In Peace Jeanie.
September 27, 2012
I, like so many others was shocked to learn about Ms Jeanie's passing. Although I would see from time to time, I''ve grown accustomed to her friendliness and approachability. I was truly impressed by the steadfast passion she had for the Soldiers, Families, and all who ever needed her help.

She was never too busy not to smile and say "hi, how are you doing?"; especially to those who work is known but the names are not. Such compassion tempered with wisdom, fairness, and deep love for others made Ms Jeanie a very special person to know, work for, and learn from.

Please accept my heartfelt condolences for your loss, and you and your family find peace and comfort during this time.

For Jeanie's grandchildren: Your grandmother was an amazingly dedicated person to the people she served as a civil servant as well as to those who worked for and around her. She always went above and beyond for those she cared about and this required much of her time. One thing you can remember when you miss her; she loved you all very much. When she talked about taking some time off work to spend with you, her eyes would twinkle and she would smile with happy expectancy. Fill your hearts with good memories of those happy times. Live your lives to make her proud! God bless and keep you always. Roxanne (Killeen, TX)

September 26, 2012
At this time of great sorrow and mourning, it is very difficult to express how deeply Jeanie's passing has affected everyone who knew her. She was my supervisor, and a friend. She always took the time to listen to me, even when she had a very busy schedule. Jeanie was a very hard worker, who kept the needs of Soldiers and Families at the forefront of her thinking. Every day, Jeanie wanted to ensure that every program within Army Community Service provided the upmost care to military Families, because they deserved it. She knew of their selfless sacrifice to serve this nation, and she was passionate about giving back to them. My thoughts and prayers go out to Evan, Jan, and the entire Family. Jeanie will always be remembered, and she will always be missed. I pray that God will strengthen each of you, and that you will experience the warmth of His love for you each and every day.

September 26, 2012
There are not enough words to express how Jeanie touched my life. The hole left by her passing is almost too much to bear but I know she is watching over us and would want us to go on. Jeanie touched the lives of everyone that she came in contact with she was an amazing women and no one will ever fill her shoes. When someone we love is taken from us the only way to let them live on is to never stop loving them. Death leaves a heartache we can not heal, love leaves a memory no one can steal

Jeanie was my boss, my mentor, my confidant, my shoulder to cry on and most of all she was my friend. There isn't a day that goes by that I won't miss our talks, her laugh, and most of all her hugs when I was having a bad day. My prayers go out to the family
September 26, 2012
My thoughts and prayer go out to the Barton family on the loss of our dear wife/sister/friend, Jeanie. Jeanie was a personal friend for over 17 years. She was one of the most remarkable ladies I have ever come into contact with; always thinking of others before self. She truly believed in and lived by the value of "selfless service". Jeanie was always here to listen; always here to love, share and care. When our heart hurt, she would mend it with a kind word...In her I found a kind friend. I will always miss you Jeanie. If love alone could have saved you, you would have never died, but now you're free from pain within. Family, remember that we loved her, but God loved her best, so let her take her rest in God's garden of beauty because he only picks the best! LJW
September 25, 2012
You brought light into darkness, calm into the storm, joy where there was sadness and purpose amid chaos. Greater than the sadness I feel for your leaving is the absolute pride I feel in having been allowed to be a part of your "being" - rest now Jeanie - your job is done and we will carry the torch for you.
September 25, 2012
Words cannot accurately express how deeply sorry I am for your families loss. I pray for comfort during this very difficult time of sorrow. Jeanie was a major influence in my life. She impacted many with her huge heart and enduring compassion. I will miss her always, and I am forever grateful for the imprint she made in my life and on my heart. I love you always and forever- Jeanie Barton!
September 25, 2012
Where do I begin....Mrs. Barton was a very special woman to me. I had the pleasure of working directly for her for the last 3 years and she was like a "work mommy" to me. She and I often talked about family, she truly adored Evan, her kids and her grandchildren; in fact we often lost track of time in the office sharing stories. I cannot begin to tell you how much she meant to me. She made a lasting footprint on my heart and my life that I will never forget. The mentor-ship and love she showed me even on our toughest days at work will always be in my heart. Jeanie was a compassionate and loving person, and I am grateful that I was able to have a special relationship with her. She worked very hard and tried to do the best she could for all of her staff. I can truly say she was the best boss I have ever had and I miss her so much! I wish God would have told me that the time was drawing near, but it wouldn't have made it any easier because I would still want her here. Although she is no longer on this earth, I made a promise that everything I do in the office will be a tribute to her, to make her proud and to honor who she was. She always empowered me and brought out the very best I had, even when I didn't think much of my abilities she would always know exactly what to say to motivate me and that is what a true leader is. I will continue to pray for the family and I hope one day to be able to meet you.
