I had the pleasure of knowing John for the past 15 years and always admired his intelligence, wit, humor, positive attitude and always willing to help others. John was a great member for our Downtown Optimist Club and with his efforts he helped touch the lives of several thousand children over the past 30 years that he was a member.
God Bless to all of his family.

I was totally shocked and saddened to learn of John's death in today's paper. John was a vital member of the Downtown Optimist Club. He will be terribly missed by our entire Club!!Sorry for your [our] loss.
John and I are members of the Downtown Optimist Club. We joined about the same time about 30 years ago. I loved John's humor and wit. He was very poetic and a great writer. Also, John was excellent at playing trivia. Years ago when we used to do skits for our in-coming President's installation, John wrote the parts for all of the "cast members". John was President of our club two times. 1990 - 91 and 1999 - 2000. When we needed a person to take the office a few years ago, John stepped up and agreed to be President again. John was Secretary of the club for many years. He was also our "legal" eyes and ears. He was the first to remind the club about our bylaws and how they applied as we proceeded with various projects.
I am truly sorry to see this friend pass on.
I will miss John.
