I just found out about Joe. I am so sorry he was a real great guy. He always talked about his family when I was with him. We met at MacArthur,I worked with him during the entire project. Again I am so sorry.
I was joe's roommate at notre dame our sophomore year. He was a great roomie. Always a perfect gentleman. Just a genuinely wonderful man.
Just heard about Joe yesterday and it immediatly brought back memories to Miami Shores Community Center and Curly. Joe was always one of my favorites, always kind, respectul and funny. Although havent been in contact with him for years he was a Great Friend and will be missed...God Bless you Joe..
My deepest deepest sympathy to the Heffernan family. I had the pleasure of working with Joe and he will always be remembered as a great man. My prayers are with you.
So sorry to hear about the passing of Joe. My thoughts and prayers are with the family...

We will miss Joe on Monday Nights at the Racquet club very much.
And my family would like to thank you for recommending Boca Helping Hands,
We have already volunteered last Saturday.
Good people are rare and this earth lost one of its best.
Dear Jenna and Family,
We are so very sorry for your loss. Jenna--I know when you got in our van last Saturday the last thing you expected was the call that your father had died. While no company in the world can diminish the pain, I'm glad that Hanh was with you then, and the close friends who followed at your home in Chicago. We are holding you and your family in our hearts all last weekend at the ride, and continue to do so now.

I am so sorry for your loss. I just heard on Monday from Tom O'Neill So hard to believe. Joe was the picture of good health when we last saw him at your home in Miami watching the January ND-Alabama Championship game. I am so glad my son, Paul Ryan, got to meet you & Joe He liked both of you very much. All of Joe's ND buddies miss him so much. I wish I was able to come down for his funeral. But I will keep Joe and you in my prayers. May Joe rest in peace.

Dina, Jenna and Kate,
My thoughts are with you at this most difficult time. May your strength of spirit and your friends support all of you. Donna
Dear Dina, Jenna, and Kate,
Our prayers are with you. We have only known Jenna for a short while and unfortunately never had a chance to meet Joe. But if a child is a reflection of her parent then we know what a great guy Joe must have been.
You are blessed by the lives that touch yours and in turn you pass on the influence and blessings on to those you interact with. So Joe's love and blessing have come to us through Jenna; and will continue to shine forth in our having the fortune to get to know her.
We are saddened that we could not be there with you at this time and extend our greatest sympathy,
Don and Pat Rummelhart
You and Joe have been in our thoughts. Wish we could be there to share hugs and fond memories. Joe was such a kind, special person. We remember working on projects together in grad school, having the two of you as guests at our wedding and how you and Joe offered to drive gifts back to Chicago only to get stopped at customs on the Canadian border. We can still see Joe smile as he told that story.
He loved life and all of you. Jenna and Kate – your Dad was so proud of you. John played golf with your Dad a few years ago and the stories – and smiles – about you two were terrific.
I read a novel recently that said that the stars in the night sky are really openings in heaven so that all of the people you have ever loved and have gone before you can shine down. We can picture Joe telling stories, looking down, and proudly smiling. May his love and your many joyful memories comfort and strengthen you.
In deepest sympathy, John and Linda Dragic

I only knew Joe for a short time, but he truly appeared to be an amazing person and father.
These lines from Walt Whitman come to mind:
"I bequeathe myself to the dirt, to grow from the grass I love;
If you want me again, look for me under your boot-soles.
You will hardly know who I am, or what I mean; But I shall be good health to you nevertheless,
And filter and fibre your blood.
Failing to fetch me at first, keep encouraged;
Missing me one place, search another;
I stop somewhere, waiting for you."
Love to your family,
Bob and I send loving thoughts and prayers to you, Jenna, and Kate. Our hearts are so sad for your loss. Cherish all the beautiful memories and celebrate the love you all had for each other. God be with your in this difficult time. Love to you.

You and the girls are in my prayers. I really wish I could attend the services but I am afraid I cannot.
I just spoke with Joe on the phone Thursday, it was great to talk to him and learn how well the girls are doing.
If Jenna ever needs anything in Chicago I would be glad to help out.
Dear Dina, Jenna and Kate,
I am numb and my heartaches for the sudden loss of your husband and father and my friend Joe. My trip to Ireland would never have been possible without Joe and I cherish that memory greatly. Why Joe? Why now? Because the father of us all looked down and said I have need of you elsewhere and Joe, like all of us must do one day, answered that call. We pray for our brethren that remain here on earth. We pray for strength and endurance to continue our work. That Joe was indeed a friend to many, many will honor his life. I pray for the peace that passes all understanding and hope for renewal one day for you and the girls. I have to tell you, whenever we played golf together, and we discussed travel(I spent twenty years as a photographer traveling the country) Joe would always light up when he talked about an upcoming adventure to one of the National Parks with the family. That light is Love and there is no mistaking it. We love Joe and will miss him.
Dina, Jenna and Katie,
I am sorry for your loss! Joe was such an amazing man. It was a privilege to work with him and meet you ladies. He was such a proud father and loving husband. To me, Joe was a great boss, mentor and friend.
Our deepest deepest sympathies and prayers to the Heffernan families.
