How do you summarize a lifelong legacy in a few words? You simply can't. Each of you that knew Joseph Valentine have had your own relationship with him, each of you your own word picture that describes this man. I don't presume to know the man you knew, his legend will never be gone until of all of us have passed so I hope you continue to share his memories.

Losing my father has been hands down the most painful thing I have ever gone through. Writing this today, I realize how fortunate I was to have had him as my father. There are not words to express the influence he has had in my life.

My father was hardworking, strong, loving and a gentle spirit, however he was no saint by any stretch of the imagination. He liked to have a good time and I can only imagine Heaven's party now that he is there!

Dad was born in 1933 and lived his entire life in the same home in Brockville. He served as an Air force Combat Veteran in the Korean War, worked for 30 years in Albion Correctional Facility and spent his retirement years fishing, hunting, and scouting for antiques.

Mom and dad dated for 9 years before finally getting married in 1979. They spent a lot of time at the lake enjoying their boats, cabin cruising, and with friends. Winters were often spent snowmobiling, hunting and cozy nights at the bar stool enjoying their many friendships. Together they spent 43 years as a couple.

As a family we enjoyed going to antique auctions, out to dinner and camping. Dad always loved going for ice cream on warm summer nights. We spent many early mornings going fishing and on salmon charters. My sister and I always won the fishing contests against the boys! I will always believe my dad was the best angler the world has ever seen. You could be fishing 10 feet away from him and catch nothing and he would have had 30 fish in the pail - it's a Valentine gene.

Dad loved taking us to breakfast every morning before school at the local diner and these memories are some of the most precious to me. I also loved when he would sing to us in Italian Che La Luna especially! My father loved to bless those around him - I would often come home from work to find buckets of strawberries or boxes of apples (whatever was in season) and I will never forget eating dad's handpicked cherries - right mom?

My dad loved coming to our home for Sunday dinners, always ice cream or a pie in hand. We would laugh, eat, spend time talking and playing with my kids. He just adored my children and would often bring them trinkets and toys he found while out hunting for treasures. Grandpa Joe and my children had a very special bond and I feel very blessed to have had him be a part of their lives.

Most of all I would like to share that my father gave my sister and I an example of a man whose imperfections provided the color in his character, while his strengths gave his character its wonderful shape. Good bye Dad - may the winds always blow in your favor, the deer numerous and curious, the fish hungry and biting, and a good find always around the corner. I love you and will never forget how much you meant to me.
