Kathy was great sister, in truth she was great in every life role. She was a genius with a very real heart. She meant what she said and put others first. She was truly happy and deeply connected to anyone she touched in life. My life was so much better simply because she was in it. Brother Mark. I love my sister.

After having met Kathy and Don it was much easier when our kids decided to move to Houston for their careers right out of college. We will always feel grateful for the love and guidance they have given them.

Kathy and I were high school co-valedictorians in the rural community called Port Acres(part of Port Arthur,TX). Everybody knew each other, watched out for each other and was always there to help if and when you needed anything---this became our way of life and helped shape us into who we would later become. Most of us were raised as Christians and practiced good morals. I am very proud of Kathy for continuing to practice the way of life we call being a
"Port Acretian" ---just being good to people. However, as Kathy's co-valedictorian and after reading other entries in this book, I know that she intentionally and so rightfully also shared her gift of intelligence. She did a lot of good things for people. Now by her faith she is at rest.
I will miss you my friend. All of the Toutcheque family send their love, prayers and condolences.

Pheonomenal woman who wore some many extraordinary hats and lived a life that made her important and influential in so many lives. Kathy was my friend, my mentor/coach, and a colleague who generously gave of herself in so many ways. Kathy was a not just a consummate professional but one of those rare people who inspired. influenced, and motivated those around her to reach their highest heights and live their very best lives. She was always one person you could count on to love you in your most authentic form. She will be sorely missed.

I first met Kathy at Texaco's Port Neches Chemical Plant in the late 1970's. Later when she moved to Houston we worked together in Texaco's Industrial Hygiene Group. Kathy was an excellent professional. She knew her craft from the plant level to the corporate level. Kathy had a great sense of humor and was a joy to work with. Kathy loved her Lord, her family and her friends. I will always remember her with the greatest of admiration for her tenacity in achieving her career goals. She was one great lady.

Kathy will always remain to be my role model and inspiration in being a successful business woman, teacher, mother, friend and more. I appreciated all of her advice and encouragement through all my endeavors. It goes without saying, she will be missed, but my memories of her will never be forgotten.

As many others have commented, there are not enough words to express all that Kathy meant to me. Leader, mentor, advisor, and friend. She truly inspired all she came in contact with. Her sense of humor made any situation seem more tolerable. While I am sad for our loss, I know she is in a much better place - handling things as usual!

What a remarkable professional and friend that Kathy has been over a long career for both of us at Texaco, ICU, & Total Safety. I treasure some great stories and memories. Kathy will be missed by many but her spirit will live forever in our lives until we meet again. My sincere sympathy to the family; what a journey.

Kathy was a very professional and strong person. I know the family will miss her and I hope that the happy and good memories will help the pain. Our prayers are with the family at this time and in the future to find comfort.

I can't really find the words to express what Kathy means to me. She was my boss, colleague, mentor, advisor, friend, my sister, my “Bud”. It was a true pleasure to have known her and I will miss her dearly.

Kathy was a long time colleague and friend. I will always remember our time together at Texaco, the many professional activities she was involved with, and of course the parties she hosted as part of ICU. I was very lucky to know her. She was an important part of my life. I hope the many fond memories of Kathy will help the family find some comfort in this time of loss. My deepest sympathies to Kathy's extended family.

Kathy was a true professional in every sense, a colleague, and someone I looked forward to seeing and chatting with every year at the annual AIHA conference (the ICU Safety suite, discussing IH, mold, and even playing music together on occasion). Those of us who knew her will never forget her and all she did for us - whenever it was needed. She will be missed. My sincere condolences to her family.

Kathy was an incredible woman, who approached life full-on with a bright, positive attitude and quick wit. She fought an incredible fight, and took us with her on her amazing journey...She lived and died with dignity and grace. She can now rest in peace in Heaven, and forever in our hearts. May God bless all of the Harkey and Portacci families.

Honoring a true childhood friend. The memories of Kathy will stay with me forever. I rejoice that she is reunited with her father in Heaven. May we all live the Good Life and see them there.

Great loss of a superb colleague and mentor for the IH profession. She fought bravely and boldly with such dignity. Much support and love to family and friends. We can only hope and pray to carry on in her giant footsteps.

Kathy was one of the most memorable, kind and loving people I have ever had the privilege of knowing. God speed, Kathy. You will be missed.

Kathy was more than just a boss, she was a teacher, a mentor and a friend. She believed that people's strengths were their gifts and their weaknesses were what made them unique. She gave freely of her time and that time will be forever cherished.

Kathy was such a great mentor to me and other young female safety and health professionals. She was truly a fighter with an amazing lively spirit. I loved working for her when I was at ICU and she opened so many doors for me. She will be greatly missed, prayers to all her family and friends.
