I met this great man when I was 26 at Bank Of America. He Inspired me to fly like an eagle, He dared me to find out exactly what wanted. I am in a change of business and a little lost so I decided to google him. Looking for direction and inspiration from him, I came across his obituary. Mr. Lewis Timberlake is still just as Inspiring in life and IN death. Your words live in me. I remember you when I was 26 and I remember you 7 years later. God bless you Sir. I will find a way or make one! Rest easy
I know this is late but I was looking up Lewis and saw that he passed. I use a quote of his when I talk to audiences.
I've just now discovered this obituary (during one of my Google searches checking up on Mr. Timberlake). He lived like few people know how, with a positive attitude and a great understanding for everyone he met. My time working for Mr. Timberlake was brief, but memorable. He was an inspiration, a mentor, and in many ways like a grandfather I never had. Because of this, I am very sad to know he has passed. I don't personally know a man still alive who loved his family more. I remember something his daughter once said, which I heard via Georgia Ann and will paraphrase: Dad was gone a lot, but then he was still always there for us. What a testament. This is how I remember him. I have spent the greater part of the last hour looking at the slideshow...those are wonderful pictures. Much love to the Timberlake family.
God bless and keep Lewis Timberlake in our minds and hearts. I also have know and meet with Lewis regularly since 1984. His wisdom and humor are legendary!!
Lewis touched my life in 1982 at a workshop he led in Lexington, KY. He gave me an idea that helped change the life of one of my children. I will always be grateful.
He continued to send me "Letters from Lewis" after my promotion and move to Chicago.
He made a difference in many lives. A great legacy.
I was deeply saddened to hear of Lewis' passing. As a young executive at MBNA he made a big impact on me. I still have my "Round to it" coin! I stopped by the web site today to order some copies of Born to Win and found some used on Amazon. I now run the sales force for my company and two partner companies. Amazing how the first book I want to teach is Lewis'. I was in three separate events with him, one of which my organization sponsored. I will never forget how genuine he was and what he brought to me and my people.
May his soul rest in peace. I feel sorry I could never meet you personally. I love your book BORN TO WIN.
I first heard Lewis in 1982 on a cassette tape program. He has been part of my life value system since then. Losing both Zig and Lewis these last few months has been a great loss to our world.
I first heard Mister Timberlake speak at Texas Boys State in June of 2008. One of the most impressionable things he ever said and that I still remember to this day is that "God doesn't give us dreams just to taunt us." It was his exceptional conviction and his talent for tact that inspired me to more rigorously pursue the dreams God has given to me. I am saddened by news of his passing, but I am honored to have been able to receive some of the legacy he left behind. I only regreat that I was never able to write to him and say what a difference his role had in my life. But I know without a doubt that heaven is a brighter place with him in it - just as the world I know was made brighter through the words he said and things he did. -MH
Just as the previous person, I too was a Bank of America/MBNA employee who was graced by one of his seminars. It was great and inspirational. I was going to the website to share his thoughts and vision with a coworker when I discovered the news.
Thank you for everything. May his family be comforted that he has helped so many and made such a large impact on people.
I had lunch today with an old friend and was trying to quote some of Lewis's quote. I couldn't remember how he put one in particular, so I googled to give the correct quote. I was so surprised to see his obit. Sad, but glad that he touched my life in such a positive was from my MBNA days. Positive, inspiring and brilliant. What a legacy he left us in his words if you ever heard him, written works and family. My fav L.T. quote: "You become like those you spend time with." I strive to live my life in this manner. God called His wonderful child home to encourage all the heavens.
Thank you, Lewis, for your service to our country.
I was always inspired by Mr. Timberlake's presentations when he Blessed us with his presence in Maine at MBNA. He also presented to my son John and many other young students and children of MBNA employees at their Scholarship Award Ceremony. GOD Bless!
Lewis Timberlake was my Sunday School teacher. He taught us more than books of the Bible, he taught us love. He taught us friendship...he taught us everything you seek to learn from a Mentor. He taught those things because he lived them. It was such an honor to know him. We miss him so very much.
I just saw the sad news tonight. I was going to the site to order more material and wondering if I had a chance to see him again. His message, if you do even half of it, will trememdously improve your life. I want to get this material to my youngest now. So hard to think all we have on this earth of him now are tapes, books, and work books. I will do my best to keep fighting the goog fight. My heart and prayers go to his family. They have a huge loss and at a tough time of the year.

What an amazing man that I had the privilege to meet and hear speak many times. A truly inspiring man. May his family find comfort in all the lives he touched and his spirit that will live on. God Bless.
I am a JCI Senator and an employee of the former MBNA America(now Bank of America).Just today I pulled out a copy "Power of Personal Goals" that he gave out at his seminar more 7 years ago.An outstanding Teacher and Motivator..May his soul rest in Peace
I am currently a freshman at Texas A&M. I was very blessed to hear Mr. Timberlake speak many times. Today I was thinking about how he has impacted the person I am today and I found out this terrible news. I am very saddened to find out that this world has lost such an influential and amazing person. My heart goes out to the family in this difficult time and I offer my prayers for you. Know that this man through just the few times I heard him speak has changed who I am.
My heart is heavy, knowing that a bright & shining star has left this earthly plain. I can only hope and pray that Lewis' light continues to shine on all those who knew, and loved, him. His messages lifted me up for many years during my tenure at MBNA. My heartfelt condolences to his friends, family, and loved ones!
I was so sad when I heard the news of Lewis' passing. A friend of mine and I were having lunch today, and she had just given me his latest book. Lewis was quite an inspiration to me. I loved working with him at MBNA. He was always positive and uplifting which is what this world needs today. My thoughts and prayers are with his family. God has another angel.
I am humbled to have known of Lewis Timberlake, such an inspiration to everyone's life he touched. His books are an anchor on my desk and I turn to them time and again. We will feel his loss. Rest In Peace. Linda Proctor - John Ben Shepperd Public Leadership Institute - Odessa TX
My heart and prayers go out to the entire Timberlake family. Lewis was such an inspiration to me and and to all of MBNA. His presentations were amazing, heartfelt and of course humorous! He touched us all in so many ways and will be missed.
I am sad to hear of the death of such a wonderful and accomplished man. We here on earth will miss him but hs is heaven's gain. I a lot of memories from his many speeches and trips to MBNA. Would have loved for Bank of America to have brought him in for a couple of speeche. I loved his jokes and I am a much better person saying I have met him and heard his speeches and I learned from him. He was so full of life and gave all of us the perfect recipe for happiness.
I had the privilege of hearing Lewis speak many times at my old company, MBNA. I can still hear his life lessons on goal setting and how getting up and out of bed is the first step in leading a productive life. I think of it every day when I turn off my alarm clock. Of all the lessons he taught us for living our best life, his focus was always on love for family and God. Even in a corporate setting, his tremendous relationship with God came shining through and resonated with many of us who had the good fortune to listen to him. He spoke often of his family and I have no doubt he will be missed by so many people. My thoughts and prayers are with the Timberlake family. God Bless You.
My deepest sympathies to the Timberlake family. Lewis' admonition that "a goal without a plan is just a wish" has become a guiding force in my life (sometimes to the annoyance of others). It and his other teachings have helped me get through many life transitions as a happier, healthier person. Thank you Lewis!
I am saddened at the death of such a wonderful man. Heaven's gain, earth's loss. I have so many memories of his speeches from his trips to MBNA. He was so full of life and gave all of us the perfect recipe for happiness. I learned a lot from him and am so much better off because of him.
I am fortunate to be among the many people who had the priveledge of knowing Mr. Timberlake and to be inspired by him. I value our time together as well as being a colleage of his fine son, Brad. Lewis & Georgia Ann, they're as one. My heart aches, especially for her. Praying for God's blanket of comfort keep them all during these difficult days, weeks & months. How he will be missed by his family and SO MANY friends.
There are no words to explain the impact that Mr. Timberlake had on my life after one short face to face meeting with him. I had never met anyone like him, and doubt I ever will again.
I will think of Mr. Timberlake with very fond memories from Allandale Baptist Church. My heartfelt sympathies to Mrs. Timberlake and the family to lose him at this time of year. But we will see each other again.
My thoughts and prayers go out to the family. This man leaves such a legacy. I first saw him speak many, many years ago when I was first starting my career. He inspired me so much that I took a different direction in careers. Now I'm retired, but I remember the energy and the unselfish giving of himself as if it were yesterday. Little did you know how much you inspired me. Thanks Lewis!
Lewis Timberlake was the first man to convince me I needed to write down my life goals. 35 years later, I am still working on that list. Also, Drayton McLane gave us the privliege of having Lewis as a personal mentor during some challenging times.
Lewis never left a room, no matter whether it was one person or 1000's where people did not fee more hopeful about their lives.
Zig Ziglar and Lewis Timberlake into God's hands in less than two weeks. Can you imagine how rich that must be!
Thoughts and prayers to the whole family.
We always loved his positive attitude about life. We enjoyed his Sunday school class at Hyde Park Baptist. He had a wonderful family too. Our love and prayers are with your whole family as you celebrate his life. Love, Mark and Jean Westbrook
Mr. Timberlake was a great man and he will be greatly missed. May God be with you and your family at this time. As you know, Mr. Timberlake is now with God and will remain in all of our hearts forever.
Lewis was a great encouragement to me as a member of Allandale Baptist church. As a young dentist he helped me one day. He asked, "do you know what to do about yellow teeth?" I said, "no." He said, "wear a brown tie." His insight will be missed.
My prayers are with you and your family at this difficult time. I didn't know him personally but he would frequent where I work and give very motivational speeches. He would make us all laugh, while giving golden nuggets of wisdom. May he rest in paradise.
Dear Georgia Ann and family, I am so saddened to hear the news of Lewis' passing. He was always one of my heros in the way he helped others (including me and my family) and in how he demonstrated his faith in God through how he lived. He was the 'real deal' and I will miss him greatly!
So sorry to hear about Mr. Timberlake's passing. I will be thinking of him and your family this weekend.
A great man and a wonderful friend for nearly 50 years...peace be to the family.
In today's world, someone schooling you is a negative thing. But we, who had the advantage to have known, heard or read Lewis Timberlake, lead richer lives because of his teachings.
I can still remember my first lesson. In the early 70's, my University of Texas business fraternity had Lewis deliver the keynote address for our annual banquet. To this day, the energy and message that he exuded in, “How to Get the BREAKS in Life” still lives within me.
Later at Jaycees, the John Ben Shepperd Leadership Forums, Chamber of Commerce, Positive Connection and other events, he continued to impact me with the various lessons that he was an expert. Time management, goal setting and never quitting were among the topics. My most challenging presentation ever was following him on the agenda of a Chamber of Commerce program.
Eventually, I was fortunate enough to meet him and he befriended me. We would routinely meet over breakfast to discuss people we knew, similar interests and how to help people we had the privilege to touch. He always treated everyone when I was with him with respect and honor whether they could help him or not.
As late as mid-2012, he was still looking for ways to expand the impact of his messages and to help me in any way he could. He was the kind of man who always thought of how he could help others.
When I learned that his health challenges had returned, we had what would be our last breakfast in October. In hindsight, our conversation differed slightly, as I didn't hear the long term vision and ideas that we had been discussing.
However, as always, he was concerned about me and my family, and shared some of his irreplaceable experiences in order to expand my horizons. When he dropped a name like President Johnson or others he had worked with it was never to make him look bigger, but he used it as a way to help his listener to learn a lesson about people and life.
Little did I know that would be our last meeting, as Lewis left us days short of his birthday on December 11, 2012. To paraphrase our late mutual friend, John Ben Shepperd, “I hope I was half as good a friend to him, as he was to me.”
Our planet is worse off that he has departed. If you were blessed to know him, you will understand my sentiments. May his words live on and be spread by those of us who were so fortunate. He will be missed.
Dear GeorgiaAnn and family, many are praying for God's comfort and peace to be with you daily at this time of loss and sadness. Your friend, Becky Shipp
Mr Timberlake was my SS teacher at Allandale. He was a fabulous teacher. I am saddened for the family at this great loss but rejoice in knowing that there is a great addition to God's garden in heaven. My deepest condolences to Mrs Georgia and family.
It was a pleasure knowing and working with Lewis in the business world. He was a true inspiration to the people of the company I served as an HR manager. His speeches were quite motivational with a real world application.
Dear friends, we are saddened with you and for you in the loss
of this dear one---your husband, father, grandfather--and it is a loss for many friends. Lewis was a one-of-a-kind man with great talents which he used to bless others and especially the heart of his heavenly Father. Our thoughts, love and prayers are with you. May you experience comfort from the Lord during these days and much grace for the future.
Our love, Ron, Sandy and family
He taught me goal setting in all areas of my life... Over 20 yrs ago....I still use his format today.....I feel blessed to now have another angel looking out for all of us!
His inspiration will continue to light the way!
I will always remember Lewis for his kindness and wisdom. I was fortunate to hear him speak at a couple of IBM management seminars and I carried " Born to Win ", as a guide for leading people for over twenty years. His insights on how to become a better person, leader, and to help people achieve their full potential will be a lasting legacy, his life's work speaks for itself.
He made a difference in my life and I'm eternally grateful.
May God Bless Lewis and all his loved ones.
Lewis was a man among men, a teacher, a leader and a friend. A finer man has never lived who gave himself completely to others, who showed us all the truth of God and who made our lives richer for having had opportunity to know him. We will miss his clever wit and his intellect but most of all his sincerety and friendship. Rhonda and I extend our heart felt condolences to Georgia, Brad and Terri-Lynn.
Ron and Rhonda Smith (Georgetown, TX)
I am stunned and saddened at Lewis's passing. He was both a friend and mentor. It is with deep sympathy that I express my love and condolences to Georgia Ann, Terri, Brad, and the rest of the Timberlake family. I will always remember Lewis as a man who could bring a smile to the lips and a tear to the eye. He had an amazing way of moving people. I will be eternally gratedful to him for the opportunity he gave me to work with him on his newsletter and books. He will be missed by more than any of us will ever know.
In deepest sympathy,
Round Rock, Texas
My life is richer and has deeper meaning because of Mr. Timberlake. I will miss him very much. I will miss his humor, his gentle drawl, his wisdom and the feeling that when I was talking to him, I was the most important person in the room. And I know every other person with whom he spoke felt the same way. Mrs. T, Brad & Terri...my heart aches for you and I pray God's comfort and warmth for you all.
