Lisa was my son's kindergarten teacher at West Riverside Elementary. She was a terrific teacher and we loved her!
Lisa was one of my Reading Recovery Teacher Leaders. Everyday, my students benefit from all the learning I received from her caring and enthusiastic teaching. I will always be grateful for her for that.
"Lisa was truly an amazing reading coach, teacher and person. I enjoyed getting to know her these past few years. She taught me a lot about reading and always made my day better when she visited my classroom. Lisa and her family are in my thoughts and prayers."
When I learned Lisa had passed away, it brought forth a flood of memories. I knew Lisa through my friendship with Kathy in high school, I remember a sparkling, upbeat, kind and smiling (what a smile) girl. She absolutely adored her sister and parents; was so smart and had a bit of an independent streak; from what I'm reading about her life she only became more so. I wish I could offer more than sympathy to all of you; please know we all offer our prayers and love to you. Lean on each other.
I was so very fortunate to work with Lisa when she attended Ohio State for Reading Recovery training. As one of her professors, I can only second what has been stated about her warmth, kindness, intelligence, and ability to make others feel happy and special. Every child and every adult that she taught basked in that warmth and that desire to share her vast knowledge. This is a loss to all of us, but Sam, I cannot imagine yours--I can remember when Lisa first introduced me while you were dating (at a RR Institute). Lisa was always a joyful person, but you brought even more happiness into her life! All of what you have written about her Sam, was expressed by Lisa about you to all of her friends. I am so glad that you came into her life and brought her such joy! I last saw Lisa at the IRA conference in Jacksonville, and she once again shared how happy she was. I wish you and all of Lisa's family God's grace and peace and will keep you in my prayers.

Lisa was a special person who was a friend and great colleague at Ohio State University. Sam and Lisa's family, I wish you strength. My prayers are with you. Lisa is watching down and smiling her big smile on all of you.Patti Maier
Truly Sam, I know so many are praying for you and keeping you in their thoughts. Brenda Stallings was so right in her entry about all the things you miss about Lisa that only you could know. I knew her best when she was younger and just starting out in teaching. She had some rough times for awhile and so did I. We were both there for each other and kept a special bond whenever we would see each other as the years went by. I'm so glad she found you and had those years of love and fulfillment with someone who could be her best friend and soulmate. I know your loss is huge. Please know as an old friend of Lisa's, you are in my prayers and thoughts and I wish you peace and healing as time goes on. Be strong and know she will be with you always also in your heart and memories.
Sam, we (my family) are praying for you daily. We think about you and the Johns everyday as well. We all know how special Lisa was, but you knew her more than us and although we miss her..... You miss her spirit, her touch and her warmth. Keep your head up and know that you are in Gods arms.
To all that have signed the guest book: thank you from the bottom of my heart. Your thoughts, memories and prayers mean so much to me. Lisa was my life, my heart, my soul, my everything. If anyone is still looking at this guest book, please say a prayer for me- I need one. sam wells
Lisa and Sam made a wonderful couple and everyone in our family, the Wells, was enriched by her. We loved to hear about Sam and Lisa's adventures. Her family, friends and colleagues also have so many stories about their wonderful times with Lisa. She was truly vivacious and we will always remember her for her love of life. Nancy Wells Woods
Sam, We are thinking of you and keeping you in our prayers. We are so sorry for your loss. Jennifer Corbin Yudow
Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends of Lisa.
My prayers are with the family. I didn't know her long but she'll be missed.
This bible verse makes me think of Lisa...
Whatever is true, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, think on such things. Philippians 4:8
Lisa was such a kind-hearted person. I have fond memories of her from high school and college days. My prayers go out to the Wells and Johns families.
Our deepest sympathies to Sam and all of Lisa's family during this difficult time, she will be missed by all - from Bertha, Monty and Darlene (Debbie's family).
Our thoughts and prayers are with you. We are so sorry for your loss. Lisa was truly a wonderful woman.
Lisa really opened my eyes to early literacy in general. She was a great educator and I considered her a mentor and friend. I will truly miss her. Heaven has received a joyous lady who was an angel on Earth. My prayers and love go out to her husband and family. May God's blessings go out to them in their time of sorrow.
Mrs. Johns, I don't know if you will remember me, but I certainly remember you and all the years you were our class Mom at Ramona. And Sam, I never had the privilege of meeting you, but you have to be a special man to have won Lisa's heart! My heartfelt sympathies to you all. After Lisa and I graduated from high school, we only ran into one another occasionally, usually at Belk at Roosevelt. It was always so special to see her and catch up on the space of time since the last time we had seen one another. Shock and sadness fills my heart to hear of her leaving us way too early! My thoughts and prayers will be with all of you at this time of devistating loss!
Lisa will be remembered. I am praying for family & friends who will miss her smiling face.
When I reflect on my career as an educator I can truely say that Lisa played a key role in my growth as a teacher, coach, and a mentor. Her friendship and compassion will be missed by the many people who had the good fortune of knowing Lisa. My life was made so much richer because she was a part of it. My thoughts and prayers are with her family and friends.
Lisa touched so many lives, mine included. It was always a pleasure to have her walk into my classroom! That infectious smile and laughter immediately put you at ease. I am still stunned and shocked that she is gone, but I will never forget her. She was a true inspiration!
I enjoyed learning from Lisa at literacy trainings in the last 9 years. She was an asset to our school system. I will miss her smiling face and pleasant personality.
I am so sorry to hear of Lisa. She was not only a great educator but we enjoyed nights out with friends. Always so full of life and will be greatly missed.
May God bless you and your family in this time of sorrow.
Lisa always had a smile. Lisa always remembered to ask about the small details of your life...the ones that you didn't think seemed to matter. She made you feel as if you were connected beyond work. I was fortunate to have her as a District Coach. Forever in my memory is her infectios smile and concern for others. I pray continued strength for her entire family.
We are saddened by the loss of a tremendous educator and wonderful human being. Lisa had a special talent of lighting up every room no matter the situation. Her dedication to students and teachers alike will be missed. Our prayers go out to the family during this difficult time. May God Bless--
Mrs. Johns and family, I lived with B. Hayes that being across the street from Lisa and her family. Lisa and I would play, we would walk around the block and we use to throw a ball back and forth for hours. I was and honored to be her friend.
Lisa will always be remembered for all of her goodness. She defined grace.

leave footprints on our hearts,
and we are never the same." -author unknown
Thank you Lisa for what you gave to our community. ----Sara Wade
Lisa has been a friend since high school, and I've had the privilege of staying connected with her. I think this quote is so applicable to Lisa...'People may not remember what you said, or what you did, but they will always remember how you made them feel'. There are nothing but warm and encouraging thoughts of Lisa. She continued to blossom throughout her life, just becoming more special and touching more and more people's lives. Lisa made life more fun, and no matter what you were doing, it was going to be a grand time. I thank you Lisa for making me your friend.
"Poise, grace and a smile..." Those words describe Lisa perfectly. I was one of her professors at Ohio State when she completed post graduate training in residence for a year to become a teacher leader in Reading Recovery. I would add curious, intelligent and gracious in her teaching and learning. She was an outstanding individual in every way. It was a privilege to know her.
Stunned and saddened by the untimely loss of such an outstanding teacher and spirit, I feel so very blessed to have been touched by such a great lady! Not only did she explicitly teach us through her instruction, she taught us by how she spent each minute of her life...every smile, every interaction was a lesson of love. She will live forever in our hearts and through the life lessons she taught us. Her family and friends remain in my thoughts and prayers. May we each console our grief by projecting a bit of the light she provided to us onto others, and in so doing, we can each keep her positive spirit alive.
While the earth is mourning a tremendous loss, the heavens rejoice in welcoming a beautiful person. My thoughts and prayers are with Lisa's family.
I did not know about Lisa's passing until yesterday morning, and it has taken this long to attempt this sentiment. Although I know Lisa is in a much better place now, I just cannot get over how MUCH we need her here, and how much she will be missed. Sam and family, I cannot imagine the depth of your sadness, to be without her physical presence, that radiant smile and brilliance, that sparkling, reassuring personality that was uniquely Lisa. We were not even close friends. She may not even know my last name, but it doesn't matter. She touched my heart and gave me hope at some very difficult times for me personally and professionally. Our fathers passed within a few months of one another. When Lisa taught a class, she made it memorable. I have sat through countless education training classes, but Lisa was the only instructor to whom I personally wrote a Thank You for the wisdom she shared and the tools she gave me to use in the classroom. Thank You, God, for sharing Lisa with us. How loved she is!!!
Lisa always had a smile on her face and joy in her voice. I'm sure my Shirley, her cousin, was waiting at the Gate for her.
What a beautiful person inside and out. She will be dearly missed.
"No love, no friendship can cross the path of our destiny without leaving some mark upon it forever." I thank God for the memories I have of Lisa and for the many ways she touched and made a positive difference in the lives of children (including my own). I will miss my friend!!! Thoughts and prayers are with all her friends and family. :(
Lisa was a very special person. I was privileged to have known and worked with her and will miss her warmth and energy. My thoughts and prayers are with her family.
In all of the years I've known Lisa I cannot remember even one time she didn't have a ? heart smile that just brought sunshine to a rainy day. She was an amazing teacher leader who touched not only students lives but sooo many adults too! God always gives us a purpose in life and I know that Lisa always illustrated to me to embrace every single second and go out with a beautiful smile??. No one can help but to smile...she has etched it forever in my heart and so many others. I love you Lisa...I know God has his arms wrapped around you ?? Now it's time to pray for loved ones....love you so much??
God has called an angel home. I'm glad I had the opportunity to work with such a caring and compassionate woman. May God cover her family and loved ones during this difficult time.
Lisa, your smile and laughter will be truly missed! I will keep the special moments we shared as coworkers and friends in my heart always. My prayers to the family.

I left Duval County several years ago, but Lisa's compassion for children and her love of reading continue to be an inspiration to me. She was one of a kind.
So very sorry to hear about Lisa. She was an absolutely wonderful person with a personality that literally sparkled. I pray for peace and blessings to her friends and family.
Words cannot express the sorrow I feel for Lisa's husband and family. She was always such a positive, sweet, happy person. I loved her personality and most of all her friendly contagious smile. She will be truly missed by all who knew her.
i loved taking workshops with Lisa She was funny, creative and so well full of knowledge. She always responded quickly to emailed questions and was always interested in our stories She will be deeply missed in the education world
It is with great shock that I have learned of Lisa's passing. We met in 1986 at Brentwood Elementary when I began my first year of teaching in Florida. Lisa, although quite a bit younger, helped guide me through that first year and two years afterward with grace, humor and patience. We enjoyed sharing our lives and spent a few evenings out together before our lives and careers opened to new chapters. I'm grateful that I saw her from time to time through the years in the teaching world and was always so proud of her accomplishments. All that has been said about her is so very true. I know her smile and bright spirit will light up heaven. She will be missed by so many. My sincere condolences to her husband and family. I remember so well her joy over the birth of her nephew Ross.
I taught with Lisa at West Riverside Elementary for 8 years and reconnected with her when she was a district coach. She was bubbly and enthusiastic about her work and her love for her husband. She could light up the room with her smile and was such a joy to be near. She will be missed.
Oh Lisa! We did not expect you to leave us so soon and unexpectedly. You were such a ray of sunshine to every single person you touched. We all will relish those moments and memories! I really wish you would've gotten to meet my little boy. The teddy bear that rattles that you got him is one of his favorite toys (I'm not kidding!!!). We love you and miss you so much. God has bigger plans for you!! We will see you again!!!!!! Love you.
I will miss Lisa's smiling face and our brief but very enjoyable conversations when I would visit Silvia. She was like a good neighbor to me too as I was always over to Silvia's house. My sincere condolences go out to Sam and her family and friends. May God Bless You and help you through this unfortunate tragedy.
Lisa you will forever be missed but not forgotten. Thank you for all the lives you have touched. I send my deepest sympathy to Lisa's supportive husband, Mr. Wells and family.

I was so very sad to hear of Lisa's passing. I worked with Lisa many years ago at West Riverside Elementary. Our paths occasionally crossed throughout the years. Lisa was loved by many. She had a sweet spirit and quick smile. She could light up a room. The teachers and students of Duval County have lost someone very special.
Lisa did, indeed, light up a room with her smile. But she did so much more. She lit up minds and lives. I learned more about teaching and loving children in one year with Lisa than in all my university classes combined. She leaves her precious mark on many.
My condolences to Sam and all of Lisa's family. I remember her vivacious personality as my classmate at Ed White. We both ended up as Education majors at UNF, often taking the same classes. Lisa will be greatly missed by her students and colleagues.

My dear friend of many years. Such happy memories of our school life and wonderful friendship from 6th grade through high school. Always a smile and forever loved. May God hold her safe in His arms. Much love and prayers to dear mother, sister Kathy and husband, Janet Ezell Gardner
It's hard to find the words to express my thoughts about Lisa. I met Lisa during my Reading Recovery training year and have always admired her both professionally and personally. She had a warm heart, a humble nature, and a great sense of humor (always putting up with my wise cracks...but that's why I loved her!). Even though both of our lives had changed, we were always able to pick up the conversation and jokes as if we'd just spoken the day before. I have never met a person like Lisa and am very proud and fortunate to have known her. Lisa was like a light that illuminated the minds, hearts, and lives of so many people and she will be GREATLY missed!
Many hearts are broken over the loss of such a beautiful woman. Lisa is now reading to all Gods littlest angels in heaven. Rest in Peace Lisa
