Dear Ann Marie(s),
What wonderful tributes have been posted to you! I have so many memories of the whole immediate early family of 3. That part of the family was integrated in the richness of life downtown. Images and sounds of that world with the tap tapping of the blacksmith shop on 25th St., Shetland ponies grazing in yards, and truck loads of farm workers going to the fields every day are vivid.
Later sitting in your math classes at SFA (in the order of the latest test results), I was eager to understand the reasonings of higher math. It was very exciting to confront your math challenges. Thank you for expanding the logic of math.
Much love as you, Ann Marie, as you recall Marie and Aubrey.

Dear Mrs. Vick,

I sure wish you could have made it to 100. That's a nice round number, and I remember how much you loved numbers. All of mathematics, for that matter, and thanks to you, I came to love math even more than I did before. Under your tutelage, I excelled in algebra, trig, binomial theory, permutations, and other subjects I had never heard of before coming to your class.

My only regret is that I never studied calculus with you. Perhaps if I had, I would have performed better as a math major when I went to college. I wanted to become an electrical engineer, you see, but I didn't study as much as I should have, and more esoteric forms of math slipped my grasp. I did fine with concrete math, but when it came to defining "a" and proving it's existence, I was lost. :)

In any case, I always enjoyed your class, even in those days when the building wasn't air conditioned, and you were always kind and patient with us. A few years ago, I accepted the responsibility of teaching remedial English at the college level. Despite the fact that I had a master's in education, it was only then that I discovered just how difficult classroom management can be. Kudos to you for making it seem simple!

God bless you as you embark on your new journey.

May God comfort all of Marie's family and friends with her loss. She was one amazing woman and the world a better place because of the impact she made on others.

Mrs. Vick, you have no idea the depth of the impact your patience, good cheer, devotion to subject, and calm discipline have had on my life. The day that Barney Blacburn and I visited with you will always be one of my favorite memories. I laugh every time I remember how you informed us that day that you could read lip, giving you a storehouse of info we never knew about. Your interest in genealogy we learned that day inspired me to build my family tree. I never really had application for trig or plane geometry, but the thinking, the logic, informed my whole way of analyzing .and strategizing, helping create the foundation of my success. I loved you as only the student can be fond of a teacher. QED.
