I just came across this notice, I'm ery sorry to hear this, Capt Himler and I served in VA55 1985-86, we always enjoyed our conversation with each other being from Nebraska,I'm an African American and we always joke about the African American population was only in Omaha, he was always so humble and very leveled. God bless you all
Dear Carla and Laura,
Mark was a great role model for me to follow as a Junior Officer while in VA-36. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.
Michael and Charlene Leschinsky
A great leader, naval officer, and friend. I was privileged to serve with Mark at Oceana and at STRATCOM. Sincere condolences....Fair winds and following seas.
My heart goes out to you and your family during this tough time. I know you are a special person and that your husband must have been very special too. Thinking of you. Kathryn Gribben
Dear Carla and Laura. Barb and I were so sorry to learn of Mark's passing. He was one of the finest men I had the pleasure to know. As a new "Puncher" and later in the RAG, Mark was always the type of Officer and more importantly the type of person, we who knew him aspired to be. You two were very special people and Barb and I will treasure that time. Our thoughts and prayers are with you, Laura and Mark. He will be missed.
Dear Carla and Laura,
Jay and I had the pleasure of being in Mark's command (the roadrunners) many years ago. Over the years we have referred to Marks strong yet easy going leadership that was mixed with wisdom and humor, as being one of our role models. He was a great man and it was a privilege to have served under him. We are so sorry for your loss, you will be in our thoughts and prayers.
Cheryl and Jay Johnston
I know you may not know me but I have cut Mark's hair for the past 5+ years and was supposed to see him on Saturday. When he didn't show up(which is so unlike him)I texted him. I had not heard back and was hoping to not come across this in the obituary. I am so sorry for your loss. My deepest sympathies are with you and your family! -Hayden
Mark (XO to me) was the XO of VA-36 when I came aboard as a new B/N in 1993. I could not have asked for a better role model as a leader, fellow B/N and especially as a man.
I think I should share with you that I just learned of Mark's passing while searching for him on Facebook. I was hoping to become his FB friend but my heart sank as I found his obituary instead. My thoughts turned to Mark yesterday for some reason and again this morning and I haven't seen or spoken with him in almost 20 years. I believe God put him on my heart and I hope my words help to bring you some level of joy at this difficult time. I have often thought fondly of my time with him and the positive influence he has had on my life.
God's ways are not our ways so take comfort in knowing He has a plan and He is in control. I will be praying for peace and comfort for you and your family.
I am so sorry to her of your loss. May God Bless you and your family.
Carla and Laura,
We held Mark in the greatest affection and respect. He had a life that was well lived and a better man you will not find. Mark and I had quite a few adventures together. Once he even prepared an inflight picnic which included a checkered tablecloth while in the tanker pattern out in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean. He always had his priorities straight. We will miss him.
Carla and Laura,
I am so sorry for your loss. In my HR role I had the privilege of seeing Mark lead. I witnessed his never wavering ethics, capacity for reason, and genuine concern for others. I feel blessed to have known him.
Dear Carla and Laura, we are saddened by your loss. We have many fond memories of you and Mark while in VA-75. Rod and Patti Bankson
Carla - we just learned of Mark's passing. Our sincere condolences to you for this loss. We have great memories of the Himler's in VA-75.
Joe and Mary Mobley
Sincere Condolences, Mark was an instructor of mine at VA-42 when I was a Cat 1 BUG. He was an outstanding instructor and great person. He will surely be missed.
You were a great man Mark, and a warrior. We will miss you.
Dear Carla and Laura, We are indeed saddened to hear of Mark's death. We are sorry we cannot attend the funeral. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and all Mark's family. Michael and Pat Orr

I am extremely sorry to hear about Mark. He was a great man and will be missed very much. If there is anything that Wayne and I can do, please let us know.
Carla and Laura, saddened by the news of Mark's passing. He was a very caring, giving man. I'm proud to have had him as a squadron mate. A true leader who served his country well, but he always put his family first.
Dear Carla. Haven't seen you in many years, but the memories are very fond and lasting. Mark was one of the finest B/Ns the Grand Old Intruder could ever hope to have. Also a fine Naval Officer and human being. Sandi and I send our deepest sympathies, love and best wishes. Jamie and Sandi Champe.
Mark was a consummate professional. He was one of the most laid back shipmates and fellow aviators I have ever flown with over the years. That personality was infectious and helpful when others were at GQ. My first flight on arrival to VA-75 was with Mark. I will never forget him telling me to get the airplane lower when we were flying a low level. Not usually something most BN's would ask the pilot to do. God speed shipmate.
Jim & Shana Bowman
I first met Mark on a trip to Omaha to give him a Booz Allen computer so he could work out of his home because we had no office. Mark singlehandedly built Booz Allen's Information Operations business with STRATCOM, and just like his Navy career, he moved rapidly throught the Booz Allen ranks to become one of the Firm's first Vice Presidents...a new senior leadership position. We will miss his daily advice and counsel, and most important, his common sense approach, touched with just the right touch of humor and good cheer.
Carla and Laura,
Thank you for sharing Mark over the years with his friends and colleagues at Booz Allen. Mark was an incredible leader and friend to all.....we will miss him more than words can describe.
I was Mark's shipmate in VA-75 also.. What a great guy not only professionally but as a friend. Always was smiling! Rest in peace.
Carla and Family,
I was so saddened to hear of the loss of your husband Mark. Something so sudden is hard to imagine. May the precious memories you shared sustain you now. I pray for strength and peace for you at this very difficult time.
With sincere sympathy.
Mark was not only a great guy to fly with but also a great mentor when I needed it most as a nugget. Our thoughts are with you and Carla. Fair winds old friend.
Farewell, shipmate. Rest easy, my friend!
Fair winds and following seas to a fellow Intruder. Anne and my best to his family.

I had the distinct pleasure of flying and working with Mark in the early 80's. He was clearly a star in the making and his subsequent career proved that to be true. A talented gentleman who exceled at all he attempted, he will be sorely missed. JoAnn and I send our heartfelt condolences to Carla and the family.
Good memories of Mark Himler. Outstanding Naval Officer, Always the Gentleman.
BMCM USN (Ret)
Fair winds always, shipmate. God bless you and keep you.
I did not know Mark personally but I was also a Naval Flight Officer, fellow Intruder and a member of VA-65. The pictures clearly show a full and rich life of family, professional achievement, and service. My thoughts and prayers are with family. Thanks Mark for making life better for all
INDEED VERY SAD NEWS TO HEAR OF THE LOSS OF A GREAT GENTLEMAN, AVIATOR AND FRIEND.
GOD WILL WELCOME HIM AND COMFORT HIS FAMILY.
From your IAC Enterprise Team. Your leadership and wisdom guided us through turbulent times on critically important programs for Booz Allen. We will remember your timely decisions, wry sense of humor, as well as entertaining stories of Navy flying, family trips, hunting and especially your dog Mattie. Your zeal for excellence led to lasting results in our IAC team's program management that will serve us well for years to come. May God bless your family and friends as they face the challenges ahead...may they ask, "What would Mark want or do in this situation?" They will be well served.
MY SYMPATHIES TO THE FAMILY. MY DAUGHTER, EMILY PROKOP, WORKED AND FOR A FEW YEARS AND HAD GREAT RESPECT FOR HIM. HE WILL BE MISSED GREATLY.
TRESA AND ROBERT HEKRDLE
You will always live in our hearts and prayers.
