Mary Jane has been part of our family for nearly 50 years and has been a beloved step-mother, grandmother and great-grandmother to our family. We have shared many happy Christmasses and family celebrations both in the USA and in England throughout the years and we are therefore deeply disappointed that there will be no representation from the Thornton family at Mary Jane's funeral service, which has had to be arranged at very short notice. Our thoughts and prayers are with Gene, who has been her loving and attentive husband for the last few years of her life, and we know his sons and their wives will be a great comfort to him. God bless you Mary Jane. With all our love from Sydney and Valerie Thornton, David, Marie, Matthew, Adam and Aimee xxxxxxx
We are so sorry and disappointed not to be able to be there today to pay our respects in person to a fine lady.
Dennis would have known Mary Jane for 52 years and I met her when she came over to England with the boy's father for our wedding almost 40 years ago.
We have had great fun over the years both in the States and here. Our 'children' still talk about the time she came and joined us in Kissimmee for a Disney holiday. Already well into her seventies, to everyone's amazement she jumped into the swimming pool.
Mary Jane joined us for family weddings and Christmas's and met 8 of her 11 great grandchildren.
We were very pleased she met and married Eugene and that she had his love and companionship during her final years. She was very proud to be able to bring him over here to meet the rest of the family and to show him the sights of London.
After a long and eventful life may she now rest in peace.
With love, Brenda, James, Michael, Fiona, Richard and the rest of the Broxbourne, Hertfordshire Thornton's.
Mary Jane was always a wonderful "older sister" to me. She stayed and visited with us in Alhambra and San Gabriel, CA. During WWII she worked at an Army Jeep factory in Ohio - When I visited her with our family she got me a ride and drive of the new military jeep. I was 11 yrs old!
We all love Mary Jane for her kindness and wisdom.
Mary Jane's mother and my father were brother and sister. Jane was especially close to my mother. Jane moved from Ohio to California and stayed with us in Alhambra. I loved hearing of her adventures. She had such interesting jobs. She worked in Japan and England. She met and married Jim Thornton when she worked in England. They entertained us when we visited England. Jane was my Maid of Honor when I married in 1950. She came to our 50th wedding anniversary celebration. Our daughter Melissa's middle name is "Jane' in her honor. She is always in my heart. I am grateful that Jim's family has been with her through the years. She us dearly loved and remembered.
