Gloria....I am so sad to hear of Nelson's passing. I will miss his jokes and sharing so many life events. Please give me a call when you get a chance. The number is 415-776-7949. I miss seeing both of you. Mike and I are going on a cruise from SF to Hawaii for 15 days. We will toast Nelson every night remembering our meeting at dinner. Many hugs.....
Love, peace and health,
Michelle and Mike Aldrich
Although it has been a very long time since I had the priveledge of being East Meadow's Chief (1974)I do follow the happenings at 610, as it is "in the blood", and was very saddened to learn of the passing of Chief Finkelman.
Nellie was a good friend and mentor to me, especially in my time the Chief's office, as there were few of us "Ladder Company" Chiefs at the time, and he will be greatly missed.
My sincere condolances go to Gloria, Michael and the rest of Nelson's family.
Chief Ed Collins
To the Finkelman Family,
Rest in Peace Chief, you will be sorely missed by the many who had the priviledge of your friendship and kindness...Thank you for all your smiles!
TO ALL THE FINKLEMAN FAMILY. NELSON IS IN OUR THOUGHTS TODAY AND ALWAYS. A FRIENDSHIP WITH THE FARRELL FAMILY DATING BACK ALMOST 60 YEARS.
Dearest Gloria, Michael and family - Peggy and I are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of your beloved Nelson. Some medical issues prevent my presence at the service in East Meadow today, but my heart is with you. There are few people in the fire service who have done so much over so many years as Nelson H. He has been an inspirational mentor to many a young fire fighter as well as a good and faithful friend to those of us who have known him for many years. I recall with great happiness the early days at Firecom when Nelson, with his unquenchable sense of humor, would keep us all in stitches with his shenanigans. As he moved on we didn't see each other so very much but when we did it was like a family reunion. It was such a great pleasure to hear that booming voice and to see that immeasurable smile! Nelson will be sorely missed by all who knew him and especially by me, a man whose life is far better for having had the privilege and honor of knowing him. You are all, of course, in my thoughts and prayers and I am absolutely certain that you will find great comfort in the myriad of memories you surely have of this great gentle man. He was loved as much as he loved and his love was without bounds. I am as sure of heaven as I am of the rising of the sun ... and today the sun rises in heaven upon the eternally young face of my friend, Nelson H. Finkleman! With deepest sympathy and warmest regards, I am ...
