Growing up I could hardly wait to see Nolan, brothers & sisters on summer vacation. That was the high light of my vacation, we always had so much fun. We re connected back up on FB a short while ago & I am proud to have had the chance to get to know him all over again. Will see you soon <3 Your Cousin Joyce Jacobs (Hernando, Ms)
Was sorry to read that another one of my Hopkins kin has passed away. When i was growing up summer vacation was a trip to Birmingham to visit family and one of favorite things to do was to go to Uncle Troy and Aunt Mattie's Hopkins home. All my cousins were fun to be with and Nolan was my buddy. I am so sorry this wonderful guy has changed his address but thanks be to our Lord we will all meet again.
Peace be with all those that knew and loved Nolan.
Hopkins cousin Barbbette
the best uncle in the world sweetest caring person was always thinking of others but I have joy in knowing I will see him again.
I love my brother very much. I will miss him until I see him again. I know that he is in heaven planning a family reunion. Please don't be left behind. I will see him soon.
Nolan did a lot for me as he also did for others.
I am so sorry to learn of Nolan's passing. What a wonderful person. It was my pleasure to know him at Phillips High and much later he taught me to shoot my pistol at the Police Range. His great sense of giving and helping out was genuine, and he will be missed. Rest in Peace Nolan.
Barbara we were so sorry to hear about our "Hoppy" but we know he is in a better place today. I will never forget his helping and always being there when Jay got shot. I just had a good laugh about that one. He was in Jay's room when the doctors office called and said he would have to be admitted to get some tests run. He first said no and then said well I will if you put me in the next door to my friend. The doctor said no that was not his floor. Hoppy said forget it then. Needless to say they admitted him next door to Jay. He was a very special friend to us. I am on oxygen and cannot get out in this heat but you will be in our thoughts and Prayers. Bebe Pitts
I would go by the "Range" and sometimes got so involved with Hoppy, I would have to return to use the range. He and I worked at the East Lake Division of the BPD, and a lasting friendship began on the night shift. Hoppy was there when I needed help. He was a very trusted friend that I already miss. I went to the range and learned that Hoppy had retired. He never got to shoot my newest weapon, a 44 mag Winchester that we had talked about on my last visit with him. I have great pride in having known my friend, Hoppy. All that knew Hoppy was his friend, just a great guy. Now, his suffering is over, Bless his big heart, God just needed another good man. And He got a good-un.
May God be with his family at this time of sorrow,
Doug Hughes, BPD (retired)
