Leola, Bob was the best Father In Law a guy could ever have! He was always there for me with a helping hand, but never told me how things should be. Matthew, Taylor, and Derrick could never have "ordered up" a better Grandpa than Grandpa Bob! They will forever remember all those great family trips we made and those remembrances always make them smile from ear to ear. Love & Peace, Ken Black
I thought about you on your birthday today. You have always been there for me my entire life. No one could have asked for a better brother. Love you Alan
My condolences to the family at this difficult time.
Mr. Ahrens was my science instructor at Vogel. He was an exceptional motivator who instilled a lifelong interest in the sciences that I value tremendously. He was one of the best in his profession.
There have been countless kids that he helped mold over the years. Our country needs more like him.
James F. Jaquess, Esq.

I am truly sorry for your loss of your wonderful husband. I only knew you two from the Friday Night Dance Club, where we used to chat together from time to time. You know that my husband, Dusty, passed away last April. He and your husband always had something to talk about. It is very terrible to get over something like this and I will tell you how I did it. I just pictured Dusty in Heaven doing what he liked to do most...being friendly. I hope this helps in your situation. My best to you, Leola. from Helen Hardesty 12/21/12
I remember Mr. Ahrens well. I graduated from Vogel 1958. He was well liked by myself and many other students. My condolences go out to his family.

Condolences to the family. It was great to see Mr. Aarens and his wife at our Vogel Class of '61 reunion last year. Him along with Mr. Bedwell and Mr. Reed and their wifes, all seemed to have a good time.
I was impressed with Mr. Aarens obit. He had a very interresting and busy life. I don't know when he ever had time to sleep.
The one thing that always came to my mind when I heard his name was something he said a lot in his Science class. "There's 3 ways to do things, the right way, the wrong way, and my way." He was a pretty hip teacher and kept up with the students and their street lingo.
I can see him now in his Science class at Vogel, standing behind his lab table, next to the Vacuum Bell with a Bunsen Burner lit.
RIP Mr. Aarons.
My sympathy to the family of Mr Ahrens. He was my science teacher at Vogel then the principal to my children at Thompkins School. He was a great man. He will be missed by all who knew him. R.I.P. Mr Ahrens.
I had Mr Ahrens for one of my teachers at Vogel Elementary School in 1960 & 61. He was a great teacher and I enjoyed his class and learned alot from it. I again had the priviledge of seeing him again this past June of 2012 in Evansville, In. at the 1961 Vogel Class Reunion. Rest in Peace Mr. Ahrens, Ruth Shirey
I still remember how excited I was when he pointed out that there had once been a hurricane named "Linda". He was a great teacher.
My heart goes out to your family in this time of sadness. Please be comforted by his legacy continuing in the heart of all the students and other lives he touched. Rest in peace you are a fine man. Many prayers and blessings for your family left behind.
Mr. Ahrens was the only person, when I was a young student at Thompkins, who showed an interest in me as a person. He always made me feel special. As an adult, I now know he knew the impact he was making on me. I made a career out of treating children in need the same way. He was a great educator. Thank you Mr. Ahrens.
You all are in my prayers. Remember all the good times you shared

Mr. Ahrens provided a great kick start to my engineering career in 1957 when he brought a recording of Sputnik to class. His classes were fun and interesting because he was excited about his classes. He will be sorely missed.
Leola, please know that you're in my thoughts and prayers, and most especially in my heart. Bob was a wonderful man. He gave so much of himself to others and did it with a smile on his face and a twinkle in his eye.

My deepest sympathy goes out to the Aherns family, I am extremely proud to have had Mr. Aherns as my Principal at Thompkins, I remember vividly being asked to plant a tree in the Courtyard with Mr. Aherns, where a plaque was placed with our names on it. Rest in peace.
Mt Ahrens was principal at Thompkins when I went there and I remember him as being very friendly, always in the hallway in the morning watching and saying hello as we all came in. R.I.P
Mr. Ahrens was my very favorite teachers at Vogel. He was an inspiration to me and always so kind and caring for others. I always remember during science class at Vogel we were going to cut up a frog. I started crying and Mr. Ahrens said it's alright I didn't have to I could just watch, When I would see him out shopping several yrs. ago we would always talk. A wonderful man.
May God comfort you during this time and always. Just know their is a wonderful angel now still watching after all of you.
