A true American Hero who gave the ultimate sacrifice.....God Bless you and your family...
One of the sad ironies of having a loved one die in the service of our country is that the patriotic holidays are terribly bittersweet and not quite so much fun. Now I'm more used to it and can finally write to other families. Our sons died keeping the battles out of our own back yards and for that our country will forever be indebted to those have given all and those left behind. Stay strong.

God Bless everyone.

Rudy is a true American Hero. May fond memories sustain you in your time of sorrow.
With love from yet another Army Mom
Hi Rudy. I've never met you but I'm friends with your dad. Funny, when I Googled Rudy Acosta I also found a picture of your grandfather, Dante's dad, who I assume you were named after. I recently saw him in an episode of "One Step Beyond", from the 1950s. The show was kind of like Twilight Zone. Your granddad was good! And your dad is an actor also. And he's good too! I saw in the photo slideshow from your funeral that you too had done some acting! I bet you were good too! I read that after the military you wanted to go to medical school. You probably would have wound up in the play at the hospital theater! Guess it's in the blood, the acting gene. Your funeral was amazing. The procession to the cematary was absolutely awe-inspiring. There were flags, signs, and banners! I was proud for you and proud to be a part of it all. Thank you for your service to our country and thank you for being a fine example to myself and all those who you have touched. You are a fine young man.
My thoughts and prayers are with the Acosta family. Your son will always be remember as a hero for our country.
I am truly sorry from the bottom of my heart for your loss and my condolences go out to the family & friends of Rudy Acosta! My thoughts and prayers to Rudy and everyone who knew him!
I didn't know this young man but it certainly made me proud to see the citywide turnout for his procession through the streets of the SCV.
May GOD Bless Rudy Acosta and his entire family during this difficult time.
To rudy and his family,
Rudy, you are angel that has made great sacrifice for all of us in america. What an incredible human being you are. I say you are because your spirit will live on forever. I didn't know you, but still want to give your family my warmest prayers that the Lord will watch over them with you at his side. It is wonderful to know that there are still men in this world who are willing to give themselves is such a selfless manner for what they believe in. May God bless you and your family for all eternity.
To Rudy, Although I never knew you , I know of you. Thank you for your service & sacrifice to our great nation. You are an example of the best our country has to offer. You are evidence that our youth is not lost. That there are still great Americans like yourself who step up & sacrifice answering the call . You are an Angel. You were sent here to protect us. Your mission has been accomplished on earth for now. God has bigger plans for you. Rest in Peace.
To your family. I have a son who served in the Navy & a son currently serving in the Marine Corps. I know the sacrifice your family goes through when you have a son serving our country. I cannot begin to imagine the Pride, Emotions & Pain you most be going through at the loss of your loved one. I only know that our Lord is in control. May his hand touch your family & his grace bring comfort & healing to your family during this difficult time. God Speed.

To the Acosta family,
I know there are no words to say at this time, except how sorry that I am. I truly feel your loss and pain. My thoughts and prayers are with you always. Rudy will never be forgotten.
For you every single soldier
Those who served so honorable
Your life was forever altered
While I’m home safe and free
I stand with grateful admiration
I stand respectful and so proud
I know I’m only a civilian
And I don’t even know if it’s allowed
But I salute you; allow me the honor
to salute you with permission let me say
Even though I hold no rank know that from my heart
My humble gratitude comes from the deepest part.
I salute you.
For those missing in action;
for those who didn’t make it home.
I know you’re in God’s presence you are not alone.
For every neatly folded flag;
for every shattered family
I will do the only thing I know to dignify your memory.
I salute you, allow me the honor
to salute you with permission let me say
even though I hold no rank know that from my heart
my humble gratitude comes from the deepest part.
I salute you .
I Salute You.

The Final Salute
“Brothers in Arms”, Military men and women down through the centuries, have traditionally exchanged “Hand Salutes” as a sign of recognition and as a way to render courtesy and respect one to another.
This “Hand Salute” is the last that we shall render to PFC. Rudy A. Acosta our Brother-in-Arms . To his family it symbolizes the love and respect that we have for Rudy. And to Rudy it is rendered as a symbol of honor and gratitude to thank him for the ultimate sacrifice he made for his country while opposing enemy forces in Afghanistan. No greater love is shown than a man lay down his life for another. Rudy, you are a brave American Warrior, a true Patriot and a national Hero. With your passing, our Country has lost a National Treasure. We bid you a sad farewell. You will be dearly missed from among our ranks. Be at ease. Rest in Peace.
On behalf of the 1,307 military Legionnaire Veterans of Lowe-McFarlane Post 14 of the American Legion in Shreveport, Louisiana, I extend our sympathies and our condolences to Rudy’s family and loved ones.
