I did my Masters in Secondary Science education at the University of Alberta from 1980-82. Ted was a phenomenal inspiration- probably the greatest teacher I have ever had. It was an honour to know him. Thanks, Ted.
Such a wonderful teacher and scholar. So sad to hear of his passing. A great writer of curriculum theory. I used his work in my own work. Deepest sympathy to his family and to the field of curriculum studies.
I knew Dr.Aoki as MR.Aoki, my Social Studies teacher for grades 10,11, and 12 at Lethbridge Collegiate Institute in the 1960's. I had always wanted to be a teacher, but it was his passion for teaching that inspired me to choose Social Sciences/Social Studies as my field. I worked very hard to honour his teaching of me in my teaching of my students for over 40 years. I am very sorry to have just found out about his passing.
Harry - We were so sorry to read about the death of your brother. I tried to send a card but it was returned because
I sent it to the Tisdale address. Please take care of yourself.

In the mid 1980's,i had the honour of taking graduate courses from Dr. Aoki. He came to Grande Prairie every second week for two terms. Each class was inspiring, he truly loved education, and having Dr. Aoki as a professor was a highlight of my career in teaching
Dr. Aoki was my father's colleague at the U of A but he and June also became very good friends of our entire family. I remember how excited and supportive they both were when I decided to teach in Japan. Dr. Aoki wrote a "self introduction" speech in Japanese for me. He practiced and practiced it with me until my pronunciation was good. My school superintendent in Japan was so surprised and pleased when I made the little speech at the welcome receptions I attended. I will always appreciate Ted and June's thoughtfulness and support in helping me prepare for my move to Japan. I still have a written copy of the speech and all the phrases they gave me to help me "make a good first impression".
My family and I send our condolences to the Aoki family at this sad time. Dr. Aoki will always be remembered fondly.
As a high school teacher of Social Studies at the LCI in Lethbridge during the early 1960s, Mr. Aoki brought his love of history and joy of learning to many of us. We will always honour him.
My sympathies to Ted's family. Also, my gratitude for supporting Ted in his teaching. His gift of inspiration is one I draw upon in my daily life.
With great sadness, Lillian Lamb, Ladysmith, BC (Sudent of Curriculum Studies, University of Victoria, 1987)
Michele was one of my closest friends all through my growing up years and I have missed her deeply. I will remember her kind and gently spirit and the way her family readily welcomed me into their home both here in Edmonton and at the coast. Mr. Aoki's sense of humor and giggles as he entertained us is a memory I hold dear. Father and daughter are once again reunited. My deepest condolences to the Aoki family.
Many years ago as a child I studied ballet with Michele at the Muriel Taylor School of Dance. I still remember how lovely and kind Michele and her family were. I'm thinking Michele has waited a very long time to be reunited with her wonderful Dad. My condolences to all the family.
Thanks for helping me understand aikido, Ted! ... Maurice Gauthier (M.Ed @ UBC '95)
Ted, heartfelt thanks for your many influential seminars, teachings and advice. It doesn't seem so long ago we were bringing our just walking daughter to your house, and now she is a young woman. My visits with you and June over the years will remain special occasions for me. I attach a photo something in the gardern that reminded me of you and June on the very day of your passing. Rest in peace, wonderful teacher. Condolences to the extended Aoki family.
Ted was an inspiration to me as a young high school student in Taber, and later as a colleague at the University of Alberta. By every measurement he was a great educator and friend, impossible to replace. Brian Evans, Edmonton
