Mr. Gooden was truly a genuine great man.
As I reminisce, I have always thought in some sort of way he probably saved me from making the mistake of my life when I was thinking about giving up on school.
In 1976 I was a perfect know-it-all teenager and thought the world was here every bit to cater to me.
I remember telling Mr. Gooden – “I Quit!”
As I was getting ready to walk out the door… he said calmly… since you quit and now you really have nothing to do today, then you got time to sit and talk awhile. Short story is... I decided it was better to just suck it up and behave.
I believe that, at that time, had he not cared and said something, I would have kept on walking.
Yes, I was a receiver on his back swing as well and honestly, I still believe I deserved every bit of what I got.

I can still see coach Gooden out there in that hot August sun at the old Hixson Junior High School practice field in the early 1960s. All the players loved to play for Coach Gooden and Coach Mitchem. Maybe we will all get a chance to play for them again. Someday. Jim Ashley

I certainly couldnt appreciate it then. But I look back on it now as an adult and I know for a fact that Mr Gooden was one of the best school administrators that I have known. Mr Gooden and Mr Fairchild kept Hixson Middle School safe and we all have had a clear respect for Mr Gooden. Sure wished schools were managed like they were in my day. Best Wishes to the family. I was amazed to find out Mr Gooden was in the US Navy Medical Corp. Shortly after high school I was also a Navy Hospital Corpsman. Farewell Mr Gooden. You will always have my respect.
My thoughts and prayers are with you Susan and your family. He was a wonderful man!
So many good memories of times in Mr. Gooden's history class. He was a wonderful man. Proud to have known him. Margaret Rawlston Torbert

What a pleasure it was to serve on the faculty with Tim and then to have him as an administrator! A true Southern gentleman with a wonderful sense of humor.
