To the family and friends of Mrs. Shumaker, I am truly sorry for your loss. I hope that you are comforted and strengthened by your memories of such a wonderful woman, wife, mother and friend. May the God of all comfort you.
I have fond memories of cousins Milton and "Virginia" as we called her, and the good times we had as children visiting them with Dennis & Karen in Norfolk, Virginia when they lived here..and then later when I visited in Birmingham,Alabama. as a teenager.I was always impressed with how welcome Virginia made me feel as well as our whole family when we visited. She kept a beautiful home and took such pride in things of beauty! Now, ironically, I live in Norfolk and although I have not been the best about being in touch, I want to send my thoughts and prayers for cousin Dennis and Lucy and Karen and all who loved "Ginny" as cousin Milton called her, May she rest in Peace and may her STRENGTH forever be an inspiration to us all ~Cousin Stanley Rose, Norfolk,Virgimia
I am so saddened by the fact that I am unable to attend my dear cousin Ginny's funeral today due to my husband's poor health. We unfortunately had to cancel our trip at the last hour. However, I feel well represented by my children and Grandchildren. Ginny was my closest cousin and the closest I came to having a big sister. In fact, she always called me her "little sister". I loved her dearly and was fortunate enough to celebrate her 90th birthday with her last May. I will remember her as the beautiful woman she was and her devotion to the love of her life, Milton. My heart goes out to her children, Dennis and Karen. Thank you, Karen, for the devoted care you gave her these last few years. May G-d reward you by bestowing strength in the battle that lies ahead knowing that your family is always there. Rest in peace dear Ginny.
I remember my cousin Virginia with love, and admiration for her courage when as a teenager, she had to flee the Nazis, and begin a new life here, without her parents.
I especially remember when I first met her when I was perhaps 7, and she was grown up and already married to Milton. She was beautiful and beaming. I remember too her love of music, she was a big Beatles fan, and she loved to explore new things when she came for visits to our home in New York.
Our conversations in the latter years by phone were in Hungarian--so neither of us would forget one of our languages--I loved how her Southern accent made Hungarian seem even more "exotic".
Rest in peace, dear Ginny, and may flights of angels guide you. I want to also praise Karen, her wise and wonderful daughter, who had to devote herself to increasingly difficult problems, and did so with fortitude and devotion and intelligence, often alone.
Sending love to Karen and Dennis and all my family, I am with you in spirit. Love, Mary Orovan. My husband, Harry French, also sends his heartfelt condolences.
