Abe, so many memories - always our annual trek with Neil to the Raven to see the Blue Angels fly and have a few beers. I spent the majority of my days with you years ago and you were, and always will be, a big part of my life. I will always remember your smile and will miss you deeply.

We lived next door to Abe for 11 years.. I will always remember watching him sneak donuts, bologna, left overs, over the fence to my dogs, hearing him quietly call there names and setting 2 plates down by the fence. Your knocking on our door at night letting us know the sheds on fire!! Your memories will always be lasting. and you will forever be missed.. RIP Abe, RIP. The Tompkins Family.. Mark, Lisa , Taylor, Ally and Mercedes..

Hey guys....I loved working with your dad because he always treated me like I was one of his own kids....I got to know him when Hope was just a little girl....he used to call her every morning to make sure she got off to school okaye in the morning when we worked Day shift....and he used to bring enough food to feed an army and then share it when I was alone a lot while my husband, Mickie, was still in the Navy, was deployed on cruises when I first went to work for Communications in the 70's....I have seen him help a lot of people that no one ever knew about ....he was truly one of a kind and I have missed him greatly since he retired...and now I know you all will be missing him too....but I can't help but think he will be rejoining his first love and watching his beloved Baltimore Orioles and drinking a can of Rolling Rock.......he was the best and will be remembered as such...take care...Mickie and Tommye Goss

I was thinking about something that I would miss when my father passed away and it quickly jumped out at me. We would go on family roadtrips from time to time and I would know that we were leaving the next morning because my Dad would always park the car backwards in the driveway. We bought a house across the street and even as an adult he always backed in the driveway on his upcoming roadtrip. The roadtrip most often was to Charlestown, West Va. where he really had fun at the horse race track/casino. I can remember many smiles on my Dad's face when he was there. He had a standing order that if a horse in any of the races for that night had anything to do with the Navy, he would always bet on that horse. He always stayed at the Turf Hotel and we still enjoy staying there when my family goes on our own roadtrips. May your final roadtrip be a long one Dad. Love, Little Abe.

I am so sorry to have heard of Mr.Abrecht's passing. We were once all neighbors here in the old neighborhood. He was one of the nicest people I had ever met.My youngest brother keeps in touch with Hope and I have over the years been fortunate enough to run into Walter who grew up and went to school with me. My thoughts and prayers are with you all at this most difficult time. Cherish the sweet memories as they will comfort you in the days to come. Diane Pauly Whalen, Va. Beach

We will truly miss you Uncle Abe, I always remember the summers we spent down at the beach with you and I will never forget the big rock you and Daddy tried to take from the beach. We always had a lot of fun and I cherished every moment we had with you and the whole family. Love, Dianne (Abrecht) Sears

He will always be known as Junior to me. My Dad was his Uncle and we always called him Junior. Then I called him Chief. He was one of the reasons my brothers and I joined the Navy. He used to pick me up at the brow and take me home for dinner. I think I was the only E-3 that had a Chief pick him up from the brow. My brother and I always had a home away from home at his house. He was a role model for me and I hope I made him proud when I put on my Chiefs hat and anchors and joined the ranks of Navy Chiefs. The Chiefs Mess in heaven has gained a great Chief, a great patriot and a great father! Fair winds and following seas. FCCS Milt Crutchley USN Ret.

I had the honor to work with Walter in my VaBeach P.D. career. We officers always felt a great deal of safety when we knew Walter was in Communications supporting us! So glad to have known him!
