I had the pleasure of meeting Bill back in the late 60s when I was a new First Officer on the DC-8. He was a fine gentleman and mentor to many in the airline. My sincere condolences to the family and all his friends, he will be missed.
Captain Bob Tanton, Air Canada Retired
My sincere condolences to all of Bill's family. I had the privilege of working with Bill more than 40 years ago on the DC8 at Toronto. He was one of the finest to work with and lifted the confidence of many new pilots. My memories of Bill are the best.

My condolences to the Bates family. For several years I lived on Lawrence Ave, very near the Bates address on Boyd Ave. I attended school with his son. I was also an Air Canada pilot for 32 years, however, I never got to fly with Bill. Sincerely, Captain Robert Semple, rtrd.
