In the special quiet that only snow storms bring I read the BC High magazine to discover the sad news. With the 50th BC High reunion looming in just a few months, you will be missed. So many happy high school memories and ventures to keep a perpetual smile on my face. What a gift.
I Last saw Billy Boy as a Fugitive from Justice. We dinned in the North End and talked of my return to MCI CONCORD.He mailed the Parole Board a rare letter attesting to my recent sobriety,YOU CAN HANDLE IT TOMMY MY BOY,but try and realize your own self worth this time. What a great man.
Father Billy Scanlan, always my friend, always seeing the best in others and forgiving the worst. In his darkest moments, his concern for others was always paramount in his mind...sometimes to the point of frustration to his friends.
A fine man....better by half than the best among us. I am lessened by his departure as are we all.
We first met Fr. Bill when he was a priest at Our Lady of Mercy, Belmont. Our sons served as alter boys while he was there. He married our four children and we have kept in touch through the years. He was very special to our family and we are saddended by his failing health and death. He will be missed. Rest in peace Bill.
I first met Bill in my second year at BC High. Back then he showed signs of leadership ( the Shepard looking over his flock ) by organizing social gatherings at his house or going on trips everywhere. We became close because I was the black sheep of his " flock " and he was constantly trying to set me on a straight course. Father Bill was always there for me and my family. My brother joe was getting married by a Priest and Rabbi in front of hundreds of old fashion Irish relatives. The priest did
not remember to attend but the Rabbi did. So Fr. Bill, being in the audience , came to the rescue. Fr. Bill was there for my parents during their illness and over the years they grew to love him as one of the family. As fate would have it my 95 yr. old dad was buried the same day as Bill. May they both smile upon the face of Our Father.
Many blessings on this awesome priest and friend....may you rest in God's eternal peace and joy Fr. Bill! Fr. Vince Bertrand, JCL
Father Scanlan made a great impression on our family and was a true friend and mentor when we needed one. He always made me feel so special. After reading the other notes I realize that he had a gift for making people feel special and shared it with so many. You will be remembered.
Rest in peace.
REST IN PEACE, YOU WERE A GREAT PRIEST AND A GOOD FRIEND. CHARLIE & MARIE ARINELLO, SMITHFIELD,VIRGINIA
The answer is yes, you gave love and were loved and will be greatly missed. How we laughed. In spite of everything. Thank you for everything for us.
So sad to read of Father Scanlan's death, may he rest in peace.
I was a very active member of the St. Tim's CYO in the late 70's. Fr. Scanlan influenced my life in many ways. He along with other advisors mentored our student run CYO board. We learned to be young leaders. Fun, friendship, faith and community were all part of our active youth organization.
To his sister Maureen (Mo) so sorry I cannot be there Friday but I do remember you from those days too - many memories of you joining us over at St. Tim's.
While many years have passed, the positive impact Fr. Scanlan had in my life through my involvement in St. Tim's CYO won't be forgotten.
Rest in our Lord's eternal peace.
I was blessed to have you as my mentor, my friend and my confidant at Saint Timothys. Your support gave me the courage and confidence to try so many things. My true lifetime friendships are from the years I was involved with Saint Tims CYO. We enjoyed so many fun times together. Canoe Races, Ski Trips , Church Dances and More. It feels like yesterday that I saw your smile and heard your kind words and advice.Thank you for being there for me.

Fr. Bill, Working with you was most inspiring, especially during Holy Week. You were so CREATIVE, thank God that HE gave us all the energy we needed to to make it happen. We remember a little saying that Deacon Pat would say "he could tell we worked at St. James for Fr. Bill Scanlan by the bags under our eyes, Fr. Bill sure keeps you busy. We loved every minute of it. Praise the Lord.

Bill had a great love for the Lord as well as a love of life. That enabled him to bring joy to his ministry of sharing the faith. I was privileged to be a classmate. Sorry I cannot attend the funeral, but I will celebrate a Mass for Bill at my earliest convenience.
Our condolences to the family and dear friends of Father Bill. He was a great teacher and faith-filled man of God. We learned much from him and were lucky to have made his acquaintance. Candy and Bill Corley from St. Brigid's Church.

To Family and friends of father Bill please accept our sincere sympaty on his death He was a wonderful man and a very good friend it to bad his life was to short. ANGELA AND BARNDS
For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels or principalities, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation will be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus the Lord.
Peace Fr. Bill.
Fr. Bill, a true servant of Jesus. By your words and by your example you have shown us how to love Him above all things. May you now rest in the arms of Jesus and His Blessed Mother, finally at peace.
FR BILL,,YOU WERE A VERY SPECIAL GIFT FROM GOD,,,HE GAVE YOU, TO US, FOR A SHORT TIME, BUT YOU TOUCHED THE LIVES OF SO MANY PEOPLE AND TRULY CHANGED OURS , WE WILL MISS YOU AND YOUR WONDERFUL CHRISTIAN SPIRIT,, YOUR SENSE OF HUMOUR, AND YOUR LOVE OF GOD. OUR TALKS AND YOUR TEACHINGS WILL STAY IN OUR HEARTS FOREVER,,,,
MAY GOD BLESS
Father Bill... You came into our life at a time when we both needed our faith to be lifted up and allowed us to receive the "Body of Christ" my wife Beverly was terminally ill with Lou Gerhig's disease. It was Fr. Lucey and you who reached out to us in spite of my being a divorced person and my wife being a widow and being married outside of the church. I sincerely hope that Beverly was there to welcome you HOME.
Throughout his ministry at St. Tim's Fr. Bill was a major influence on me, and my family. His sense of humor and friendship made us all feel at home in church, yet he could inspire with wisdom. Fr. Bill lived Jesus' call that we should love one another by the way he lived. I know he is interceding for us now, praise God.
- Deacon Frank Tremblay, Fresh Creek, Andros, Bahamas

Fr. Scanlon I will forever remember your fun loving take on studying the bible back at St. Tim's in the 70's and your wonderful homily at our wedding. We still treasure the picture of you marrying us in 1979.
Fr. Bill, you were such a big part of all of our lives...a special friend who meant so much to us. Thank you for your love and the wonderful times we had together. You will never be forgotten, and are always loved.
Father Bill officiated the marriage of my parents, and in my life, served as not only the officiant but as a pedestal of comfort during my family's time of mourning whenever we said goodbye to our loved ones who passed on. For this, he will be greatly remembered and missed.
Now you are in paradise! What a wonderful and incredible priest you were!
RIP Fr Bill. You were one of a kind. You brought us God's message in a way only you could do. The Collins family has lost a dear friend today, but you will be in our hearts forever.
While I will never forget your infectious laugh, the lessons you taught on what it meant to be a Christian I carry with me every day. Our world has lost in this deal – but I know the angels are laughing with you now.
You have touched so many lives and have been an inspiration to many. Thank you for the Love, Laughter and Life and have given to the Collin's Family. May you rest in Peace.
