Mrs Bante was more than a friend's mother to me - more like a combination of gracious hostess, compassionate woman, and comfort food. When Mike and I started out to work each morning for 3 years during High School, and again when we returned sweaty and grimy, often full of paint and sawdust, at the end of each St Louls hot Summer day, she would invite us to enjoy her latest concoction which, if refused, was replaced with a sandwich or other repast as appealed to us. I learned eventually to accept her first offering because she would only work more to prepare just what we might like. This gentle woman's quick smile communicated remembrance immediately as she returned from the store to find me chatting with Joe, my having returned for a visit 35 years later...and offered me me coffee and cake even before removing her scarf.
Pr 31:26, 30 An excellent wife who can find? She is far more precious than jewels..Charm is deceitful, and beauty is vain, but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised.
