I was a student at Ida Rankin Elementary School in the late 70's and early 80's. Although I didn't know it then, it was part of the foundation that made me who I am today. I'll always remember Mr. Craig for his humble temperament but firm presence. Even years after leaving Rankin, graduating high school, and becoming a police officer, I always called him Mr.Craig. That's who he'll always be to me. My prayers to his family on the loss of such a community treasure.
Godspeed Mr. Craig!
Barbara, I just today learned of Allan's passing, and the news came as a shock. While I spent many years away from Mount Holly, he was an anchor of our 1947 high school class, and I always enjoyed seeing him when I could get to the reunions. May you be comforted and blessed with the love that comes from all your family and friends.
Dear Allan Craig Family,
It was with great sadness that I read of Allan's death a few days ago. He and I were both principals in the Gaston County Schools for many years. I remember him as a great administer, friend and colleague.
When my Mom died in the early 70's Allan came to the visitation. I thanked him and he said,"Well, Jack, you didn't have any brothers or sisters and I just wanted to support you since I have such big family to support me." I never forgot that.
Sorry I couldn't get out to the receiving or funeral, but I have had a severe cold, cough, etc. for about a week and I certainly didn't want to give it to anyone.
May God bless you in this time of sorrow is my prayer.
Jack Kimbro, Principal (Ret.)
Chapel Grove Elementary School
When we moved to Mt Holly in 1962 I was in the 5th grade and collected lunch money on Mondays and took it to Mr. Craig. A year later I was in his office for a paddling with Gerald Jenkins for fighting. That time he let us off with a stern warning. Mr. Craig was a great educator and a great man. He had the magical ability to just appear out of thin air when any of us guys were on the verge of mischief. My deepest condolences to the Craig family.
Barbara, You are in my thoughts and prayers today.
It has been a long time since our days together @Pinewood and my days
@Ida Rankin with Allan.I know you and your family have many happy memories of your time together with Allan. He will be deeply missed.
