Alleen, I just wanted you to know that I'm thinking of you and your dad. In my mind he's off again riding his horse and singing all of those songs. Take care. Janet Cohen

It has been many years since I rode with Allen at The Church Ranch, Bud and Frances Vierra's ranch and La Canada Ranch. Dancing over and over to 'Walking The Floor Over You' sung by Allen's favorite performer Ernest Tubb. I remember one Christmas Eve going to Sears with Allen to purchase a record player and some Country Western records. I am sure he wore that poor old record player out. Trips up to Cachauga to see Freddie and Ann Nason and Jack Swanson and his wife. Trips over to Fresno to see Ray and Laverne Ordway. Dinners with Bud and Frances. Watching Bill Askew head and Allen heel at the ropings. Trailering the horses over to Dos Palos early in the mornings and working all day putting the cows out to pasture.
Lots and lots of wonderful memories.

When asked to provide a memory of my father I immediately and unexpectedly thought of his hands. Not his face or his eyes ....but his hands. Shaking my father's hand was like shaking hands with a bear. He would latch on to your hand, swallowing it whole with his own...taking no prisoners! A handshake from Dad was still quite an adventure when he was eighty-two!
Those large, strong, hard weatherworn hands were a testimony to the life he lived. I saw those hands bashed, mashed and bleed more times then I want to remember. His hands were so rough that you hurt for what he had been through ...but at the same time so proud to know people like this still exist.
I had the most profound honor of being a part of my Dad's life and the privilege of being there by his side at the end .......holding his hands.

Allene: I know for certain that we never lose the people we love, even in death. They continue to participate in every act, thought, and decision we make. Their love leaves an indelible imprint in our memories. We find comfort in knowing that our lives have been enriched by having had them with us in this life. Love Keith & Nitza
