My deepest sympathies to Sr. Callista's fellow Sisters and friends. She was a wonderful person and an excellent teacher. So kind, loving and so willing to share her knowledge to help so many. She has always been remembered over the years with fondness and respect. RIP Sr. Callista - you were one of the best.

I read Sister Callista's obituary in the Chronicle Herald today. I believe that I am called after Sister Callista. I think she is my namesake. My name is Callista. My mother(Mary (MacDonald) MacNeil, Creignish) named me (I was born in December 1956) after a former teacher of hers, a Sister, Mother St. Callista. I remember that my mother said that she decided to call her first daughter Callista, after a teacher of hers who had been very good to her and took her under her wing while a student, as my mother was very lonesome for home. I guess this would have been in Mabou, Cape Breton. My Aunt Fidelle says it like this: {A "Mother St. Callista" took her under her wing & was so good and kind and understanding and helpful, that your mother felt she alsolutely saved her, and in gratitude decided that if she ever had a daughter she would name her Callista.}
I have always been intrigued with the heritage of my name. Sadly, my mother passed away when I was just 13 yrs old, so I didn't get to know more about Sister Callista nor did I ever meet her. According to the description of her in her obituary, I can see how well respected and accomplished she was.
Please pass on this message to her family members and Sisters in CND.
Sincerely,
Callista (Mac Neil) Burridge,
formerly of Creignish, Cape Breton, living and teaching in Deer Lake, Newfoundland.
