Carlton Barrow Reid Sr.

Sunday, June 29, 2014
Carlton was a special man who made everyone around him comfortable with his great sense of humor. In 2003 he made a special trip from Washington D.C. to join the festivities presented by the New Mexico State NLAPW Convention in honor of his wife Dr. Bernice S. Reid, President of the National League of American Pen Women. The five-day Convention was held in Truth or Consequences, NM and his surprise appearance was the "icing on the cake"! He certainly will be missed by all!

Carlton Reid and I bonded the first time we met. Unfortunately, space does not allow me the full opportunity to pay tribute to a man who change my focus on how to live your life with a defined purpose having "God" and family as your driving force. He left a lot of himself in the lives of other and we are thankful his path crossed ours and blessed us with Grace, Love and Salvation.

Mr. Reid is gone and I will miss him. He was a true leader and I could always count on his good judgement and fairness. Having served in Vietnam I have not only lost a friend but I have lost a Brother. My sympathies go to his family and those near and dear to him. May he forever abide in our memory.

Carlton gave energy and confidence to those who worked for young children and families. He held high standards for us to reach and was always available in case we needed help. He was dearly loved and respected.

Our prayers go out to his family who he dearly loved.

This message is sent with deep appreciation and respect of our Head Start promoter, advocate and very much loved colleague, Carlton Reid.

Carlton understood the meaning of the word "team" and always focused on the good of the "team" as he made many great contributions to the Office of Head Start, helping us all to move forward personally and professionally in numerous ways.

His work here will not soon be forgotten. Please accept our sincere condolences for the family. Carlton was a remarkable man and everyone at the Office of Head Start is better for having known him. We were humbled by his kindness and compassion to everyone.

Respectfully,

The Office of Head Start Region VI Team
