Charlie "Peanut" Faircloth Sr. 1927 - 2010

Charlie "Peanut" Faircloth Sr.

I saw Peanut only once, on the stage at Berea College, probably at one of Loyal Jones' Appachian Music festivals in the early 70s. He sang and played harmonica, and after 35 years I still remember "That's right, ladies; Sterling beer has no more calories than a sody cracker!" But more, I remember getting a brief glimpse of an entertainer from an era gone by, and a man who took immense delight in life and people. I felt happy that my friend Raiford was so lucky to have such a father...

I've heard of Peanut all my life, but never ran across him until a couple of years ago, I asked if he "taught washboard", he said he never had but wouldn't mind giving some tips. A friend of mine and I went to his home, we had the best visit! He helped her with the washboard, he told us a litte about his life/experiences, he wouldn't take money so we bought a CD from him, best investment ever! plus, I have our conversation/lesson recorded as we were going to "practice" what he told us about the washboard. Thank you Peanut! You made our day!

We are thinking about each of you during this most difficult time and it's comforting to know that you have a Savior to lean on. You will be in our prayers. We love you all. Clara & Pat Thompson

To express the loss for us all of one of the seminal lovers of life, love, humor, music is so difficult. Too short was each visit. Well remembered is each encounter. Watching Mr. Faircloth's son, Raiford, over a lifetime reveals much of what Charlie Faircloth's power and influence in this life is. Music and family and care of those who matter is part an parcel of being a Faircloth - along with a great wit and sense of humor. Thank you, sir, for all that you are and continue to be in we who survive you for now.

I count myself so very lucky to know this family and to have shared the stage, to infrequently, with such a celebrity and artist as Peanut Faircloth.

You are all in my thoughts and prayers, now and always.

I heard it said recently that "Heaven" is knowing one is remembered well for the many moments of sharing with and caring for others. Charlie Raiford "Peanut" Faircloth IS in heaven, I'm sure.

With highest regards and love to you all,

What a beautiful story. Prayers of comfort to the family of Charlie. Through his struggles and success he left his family a beautiful story and heritage. This is a man whom touched lives everywhere he went, that shows the love and care he had for the human race. His life work will carry on long after we are gone and keep inspiring those who hear it. God Bless you Raif and your family what great memories you will have to pass on to your grandchildren. Bryan and Kelly Heeb and family
