COL Gene Camp and Margie were the surrogate “uncles and aunts” that my sister and I enjoyed as “Army Brats.” Gene and my father were both army officers of great distinction, close personal friends, neighbors, golf partners, fellow Shriners and members of the ROMEOs. Between other close friends and families, they made the most out of retirement. They were all family.

During our many trips between duty stations, we would visit my parents here in San Antonio and always saw “The Camps” making those great experiences all the more memorable. Gene's son Greg and I were friends and served together in Germany. Following his father's example, Greg too was a great officer.

Our prayers, love, sympathy and condolences go out to Margie and the rest of the Camps, a wonderful military family. We shared so many great times together that we know in heaven will simply repeat themselves forever.
