Today I celebrated my friend Donia's birthday by embracing sweet memories of our friendship over 7 years together. I miss you every day and want to drop by or call...I smile and know you are free at last in God's care. Love.
Thinking of Donia on her birthday. Miss her so much.
I just tried to call and wish Donia a Happy Birthday and learned she passed away. We had many good times together in Nashville and Washington D.C. and always called on our respective birthdays. It is a sad day for me to lose such a special friend.
Craig and Cradall. I just heard about your Mother passing away!!! I was unable to come to Nashville for the visitation!! Your Mom has always held a special place in my heart!! my thoughts and prayers are with both of you and Bill
Dear Bill, Craig and Crandall,
I can't believe Frank and I only knew your mother for 8 years. It seemed like a lifetime! From the time we met her having breakfast at the Hotel Parc St. Severin in Paris to our days at Sewanee with Clare to subsequent trips to Philadelphia, New York, Washington, New Orleans and Paris--it certainly seemed to be a much longer time. I only wish it had been. She enriched our lives in so many ways with her southern charm and her humor and her amazing knowledge of art.
Our last visit with her was in New York last April for her 81st birthday. We were staying at the Yale Club, and she was so excited to be there. Before dinner the first night we were going to the bar for a drink. To our surprise when we arrived, the whole bar was set up with TV screens and the place was packed with alumni watching the Yale hockey team play in the final tournament--the Frozen Four!! It was not exactly what we had planned. The place was wild and crazy--and Donia was having a great time! Two nights later she was there when Yale won the tournament. It got even crazier, but she took it all in stride. She was always up for anything. It kept her young all her life, despite her health issues.
We miss her terribly.
With our most sincere sympathy,
Susan and Frank Ashburn
