Frank Sloan

I miss you, Frank. When I see an opera, a ballet, a play, I will think of you, take your spirit with me, and I'll remember all those great hugs, too. You are in my thoughts. Love, Deborah

Frank was the first editor to sit down with me at the SCBWI, at the Cocoanut Grove, to look over all my portfolio work and all my manuscripts (Sue Alexander had arranged for me to meet with him and I had no idea that I was meeting such a distinguished, sensitive, and very creative executive) and he told me that I had talent, that he wanted to help me and that we would be friends. And we were friends. Our first interview, scheduled to last 30 minutes went on for almost two hours. I was astonished, thrilled, lit afire with new enthusiasm, and felt as if I really could become a published author-artist. And when my life had some dark moments (death of my mother, divorce, bad health), Frank scooped me up at the conference and literally took care of me. He was a hero then and he is a hero now. I send my heartfelt sympathies to his spouse and to his family and friends. Love, Deborah Nourse Lattimore

I knew Frank for nearly forty years, as an editor of some of my earliest books, as a member and eventually as Chair of the SCBWI Board of Advisors, and especially as a cherished friend. Always warm, knowledgeable, insightful and funny. Frank, you are deeply missed by the thousands of people you touched

Frank was one of the first editors I met in publishing who made me laugh and made me feel completely welcome, at home in an industry he loved. I will miss his humor and his insights. Frank, you are missed.
