Dr. George Ellison Hurt Jr.
I'm sorry to hear about Dr. Hurt passing. He was a wonderful man. He performed surgery on my son's kidney when he was 7 and on his bladder when he was 11. When my son was 18, his kidney failed because of an injury. Dr. Hurt cared for him for over 2 months during the crisis. He finally scheduled him for surgery to remove his non-functioning kidney. The day before surgery he reran the tests. We were with him when he viewed the x-rays. He broke into a delighted grin and explained to us that there was no need for surgery. My husband, son, and I really loved him and credited him with contributing to our miracle. I know he worked long hours that took him away from his family. Thank you. He really made a difference.
I was just telling someone today about how wonderful Dr. Hurt was and so I decided to look him up and I found this information that he passed away. To the Hurt family I am truly sorry for you loss. What an honor to have such a man as Dr. Hurt in your family.
I met Dr. Hurt when I was 3 yrs old when he did surgery on me. It was 1970 and although I was only 3 I remember so well the kindness and love that he showed me. I remember the day of my surgery that he came to the waiting room and took me from my parents and carried me to the O.R. As he put me on the table he gave me a kiss on my cheek. In my late 20's I saw Dr. Hurt once again as a patient and I was so amazed that he knew exactly who I was and that he had remembered me from almost 30 years ago.
Dr. Hurt is someone that I have never forgotten and I never will. He was a huge influence in my family and he saved my life and for that I will for ever be thankful. I saw him until I was around 5 and I remember that I would tell everyone I knew that my doctor's name was Dr. Hurt but he didn't Hurt at all.
I look forward to spending eternity with one of my most favorite people!
We want to express our sincere condolences on hearing that Happy died. He was a great person, friend and physician.
I shall always remember those wonderful times we had on the hunting leases throughout the years.
We were so sorry to hear about Dr. Hurts passing. He operated on our 11 month old daughter Mikell, 35 years ago, and we will forever be grateful to that wonderful, compassionate man. I hope the belief that he is in a wonderful place, surrounded by wonderful people, will bring comfort to the Hurt family. Sincerely, Mimi and Scott Miles
What wonderful friends Happy and Ann were with us at SMU. Jim and Junior (as Jim called him) were brother Phi Delts and Hilde and Ann were Thetas and roommates. We had so many great times together, and we still have a picture of the Hurts, Whittleseys, and a few others with birds on our heads when they all visited us in Cardiff, CA. We miss you, Happy!
