I feel so blessed to have met granduncle Beto last year in Indiana. I remember seeing him when I was 6 years old, and here 45 years later I finally get to see him again. We had a great time being with family and catching up with events in our lives. It was a real treat seeing him interact with his little sister Toni, especially when she elbowed him in the stomach - he was ok.
I was amazed when I found out he lived through some very difficult and historic times during WWII: The Normandy Invasion AND The Battle of the Bulge. I admired him even more knowing that he went through war and survived. War IS hell, I know (Iraq - 2007), and yet he came back and fought to have a "normal" life - he became a loving husband and father. Beto was a very special man to overcome so much, give so much, and leave so much. I know the Lord has blessed me with Gilberto Guerra's presence in my family and his memory. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.
