I was lucky to have met Sam at his grandson's wedding in Nashville last fall. During the entire time he was surrounded by his loving family. The days were filled with fellowship, lots of laughter and an abundance of love. Not a minute was wasted, lots of memories were made.
It was apparent to anyone present that he was an exceptional father who taught his children what was really important. And family was at the top of the list. To listen to him speak you could tell he was so proud of his family. Few people are lucky enough to grow up in such a wonderful family. He loved his beautiful wife Mary Ann. I couldn't help but smile each time I looked at them, they were so sweet together. I must admit I was a little envious.
As I said goodbye to Sam and Mary Ann at the end of our trip I asked them to adopt me. Who wouldn't want to spend their days surrounded by each member of this wonderful family. I know that Mary Ann will continue to be surrounded by them.
We can rest in the knowledge that Sam is with his Lord and Savior and his eldest son Hal. The world has lost a great soul. We have our memories of a very special man - Halsell Sam Davis, Jr.

Mr. Davis was so steady, stable, low key, professional, approachable, always available, a friend, a patriarch of our firm like a father and brother, a leader, a man of honor and integrity, a veteran, wonderful family man, Christian, an outstanding legal partner, trusted by so many, and the list could go on and on. His passing is truly a time of sadness and great loss. Mr. Davis was always there with a calm answer and response. But he is now in a better place; he has run the race well, a good and faithful servant to his God, his family, our firm, all his friends, his clients and all with whom he came in contact. We can recall with joy his life led so very well.
Mr. Bob Burns was another good hand, partner and patriarch of our firm. Mr. Burns was proud of his Scot ancestry and was typically very sparse with praise. Mr. Burns generally gave no higher honor than when he would say of a person that is, "He'd do to ride the river with." Truly Mr. Davis would do to ride the river with, paddling together and keeping a good hand on the rudder whether going up or down river, in good or bad weather.
Well done. May God Bless and be with you all in this time.
David Weaver, for the Firm, Burford & Ryburn, L.L.P.
