To Jo and the family...I just found out about your loss. I brought my band to Florida several times (you may remember, you handled me and my jazz band once some years ago) and Jim was always a welcome face when we stepped out of the bus or off the plane. (As I got older, the 24-hour bus trip kind of lost its appeal!) He was a wonderful guy and I absolutely loved every minute I was with him. As a grandpa myself, now, I try to be more like Jim was every day, caring, optimistic, and friendly to everyone I ever saw him meet. Our sincere condolences on your loss...please know that Jim influenced many people not only by his work but by his example. I'm going to help out an ETI group this spring in Chicago myself, and I hope I can do Jim's memory justice. You and your family will be in our prayers. - Jeff Waggoner, Clarendon Hills, Illinois (former band director at Hinsdale Central HS)

Joan,

After I married Al, Jim and you were two of the first people I met of his friends. I was impressed with the respect Al and Jim had for each other. Jim reminded me of an overgrown Boy Scout as he always enjoyed helping others. Jim always had a smile on his face and a twinkle in his eyes. He will truly be missed by all the people who knew him. May God be with you and your family.

Joan & family,

I first met Jim at the Electrical Shop at MSU. In all the years I worked with Jim I never heard him talk bad about anyone. We struck up a friendship which lasted thru the years. We watched our families grow and even went camping together. Jim was not one to avoid pulling a dirty trick on a friend. One time we were in Hawaii cruising on a catamaran. They had a stage on deck and Jim was outside looking thru a window. A hula-hula girl asked for a volunteer to come up on stage just as Jim waved at me. I waved back and the girl picked me to go on stage. She took my shirt off and I had to do the hula-hula. I told Jim I'd get even with him someday but I never had the opportunity. Joan, I feel fortunate to have the memories of times our families shared together. I'm going to miss Jim and his friendship and talking about the past experiences in the Electrical Department at MSU. Your friend always.

What a loss this is to all of us who knew Jim so well. Growing up with both Jim and Jo, spending our school years together and the rest of our adult lives, we'll miss him. Our prayers are with Jo and the rest of the family. Paul and Gloria Young
