A few thoughts of my Dad from a grateful son,
It has been an honor and privilege to be your Son. You have taught me a lot, a good work ethic, a sense of humor, honor, duty, love of Country, love of people, and a keen sense of right and wrong. You always supported me and my actions, I never wondered if you approved of me, I knew you were proud and nothing was left unsaid, for that I am thankful.
As a Police Officer you showed Pride, Integrity, and Guts, this wasn't just your reply to those people who didn't always show respect for Police Officers but was your creed. You were honest and always did what you felt was right. I respect you for standing up to your values, even if that cost you promotions or an easier road. You stood up for those who could not stand up for themselves.
All through your life you worked hard to improve your family's life. Your love of family was never questioned. Again, you did what you thought was right to improve your family's life. You moved the family to Placerville for a better life even though you would take a 50% cut in pay. Your priority was on your family, this is a lesson that was not lost on your children.
Dad I am going to miss you, I will miss your sense of humor, your calls to discuss how our team is doing, or to tell me that Lawrence Welk is on. I will miss you during the Holidays. I will always think of you when I visit Placerville, the city that you loved. I will miss you when I hear any 50's music or see Animal house. I miss the fact that you were just a phone call away. From now until we meet again, I will talk to you in my prayers. I love you Dad, it was a very good life you had.

I grew up in Placerville as one of the "cops kids" club. My father Roy Hill served on the Placerville P.D. with Bart. I remember my father coming home and sharing may humorous anecdotes about the good natured things Bart would do on shift to ease the stress and tensions of the day and how much of a dependable colleague he was. Later in my life I remember talking wit Bart a lot at the CRC catching him up on how my dad was doing and sharing stories. He will be missed and to his family my deepest sympathy.
