To the Messer family: Elliott was one of my opposing counsel in a case many years ago. He was a consummate professional and a gentleman. He will be missed. Sincerely, Lauri Waldman Ross

Elliott Messer was an exceptional person. I knew him as a brilliant lawyer, a gracious Southern gentleman, and a man worthy of respect in all areas of his life. His career required strength of will and dedication to purpose. He would never avoid a fight if a fight was required ... and yet, he handled disagreements well as they came his way.

Honor was important to him, and if there were options in a particular situation that might confuse or deter a lesser man, they were no handicap for him. His was always to follow the ethical course. He was a warrior, not only in the uniform of his country but before the Bar on behalf of his clients.

His professional accomplishments were so many and so meaningful, it's impossible to do justice to them here. Others may comment on those, but what I remember most of all is that he loved his life ... his home, St. Teresa, his farm, his family. And his Elizabeth with her sweet ways and gentle disposition.

He made me laugh with his stories and his quips. He was generous with his time and his thoughts. I cherish the memories of the time I spent in their company, and I am sincerely sorry for this great loss to Jim, Emily, and Will.

I will miss him very much.
