To the dear family of Jay Stern.
We send you our love and condolences for your loss. The world has lost a good man, and we have lost a good friend.
We thank Jay for his service to our Country as a proud member of the United States Marine Corps. The Marine Corps motto is Semper Fidelis, Latin for "Always Faithful" or "Always Loyal". This motto personifies Jay. He took care of the people in his life ... family and friends. He was the strong one who helped others. We are sure he hated not being strong and independent over the last three months.
We thank you, Jay, for your friendship with us. It was our good fortune to know you.
We will always remember two sides of Jay. One side ... the contrary cynic who would make a comment and watch for your reaction. If you watched him closely, you might see a subtle twinkle in his eye. And his other side ... a very warm and caring individual. We never heard him boast of being a good man or of having generous heart; his humility would not have allowed that. Actually, he would have denied it. But it was impossible to miss seeing that he really was just an old softy inside.
There's a story of a little girl who asked why her Grandfather had passed away. Her family told her that he had been sick. The little girl replied, “But I wasn't done with him yet.”
Well, Jay, we weren't done with you yet ... We know, Jay, you're probably looking down from heaven saying, “Yeah, right!”
