Joe Willie "Pinetop" Perkins

WOW! Sad news for Austin "The Live Music Capital of the World". No doubt, Pinetop was one of the longtime Greats of the Austin Music scene and his name on the music halls' marquees is going to be missed. I am so happy I had the chance to see him "do his thing" one winter night for a small crowd at Nunia(?)s on 6th Street. It was one of those "magical music moments" a musiclover can have in Austin's Live Music Capital. REST IN PEACE PINETOP! I hope you are buried with your keyboard so you can make sweet, sweet blues music on the other side.

I'll never, ever be able to adequately articulate what a pure honor and privilege it was to share the stage with you. A smile and approving look from you during a performance was more validating than a suitcase full of awards, a pile of money, or a lifetime of applause. Rest In Peace, brother, and tell the guys that went before that there are still a few of us trying to keep It all going.
