Joseph Q. Holliday

Wednesday, November 14, 2012
When I came to work in central office of the Raleigh Public Schools, Joe was Asst Supt but still in coaching mode. He was a terrific mentor, mediator and friend to this young guy startng a new career. Moreover he modeled devotion to family and friends, helping me know what is really important in life. Our continued friendship through Broughton connections was a source of joy. What a life well lived!

Joe lived across the street from my parents beach house in Holden. It was always wonderful to visit with him at the beach and he was a great neighbor and friend to my mom & dad. We will miss him!

I think I spent about as much time in Mr.
Holliday's office that is aloud. I was a
cut-up in those days. Thank God some of his words set in, and with a little help of the U.S. Army, I did straiten up. When I came back from Vietnam, I was dating a girl at Broughton. When I went to the lunch room to see her, Joseph Q. remembered me and called me by my name. I'm sure that was a good thing now. My heart felt blessings to all his family.

Jane and Amanda, Ten years ago we moved to Carolina Ave. Your Dad was the first neighbor we met. He didn't come just to say hello, he came to help us move in. Over the years we became good friends and he was an inspiration to our entire family. We will never forget Joe...he will live on in our hearts forever. Love and prayers, Judy & George
